I've mentioned it once or twice before in other threads, but I need to repeat it now in order to set the scene:
Last August I came home from work to find someone had broken into my home (through a window) and had stolen a DVD player, a good digital camera (that I'd only had a couple of months and was my pride and joy), and a sports bag - they'd emptyed the contents of the bag on the floor and presumably put the DVD player in it so they wouldn't be conspicuous walking down the street with a DVD under their arm. They ignored the snakes, and I like to think they walked into the snake room and shat themselves.
The landlord immediately put security grills on all the accessible windows. The police could find no fingerprints even though they dusted all likely areas. And neither the DVD nor the camera was ever recovered.
Tomorrow (Sat. 5th March) I was going to drive up to the Orange Bird Sale, so last night I went and bought another digital camera. After charging it overnight, I put it back in it's box and hid it this morning, thinking how paranoid I was.
Got home from work a little while ago and, after walking into the bedroom I felt something wasn't quite right. I went and checked the camera - still hidden. The new DVD/Video combo I bought was still plugged in. Computer and all peripherals hadn't been touched. Walked into the snake room and - you guessed it - looked at some empty cages.
I went around the house a checked access points and found they had climbed a ten foot brick wall and forced their way in through the laundry window. Miserable sons of b1tchs.
What did they take? An adult pair of Coastal Carpets and a black pillowcase. The male I bought last October, especially for breeding this year. The female is the snake in my avatar, the first one I owned and I got her as a hatchling several years ago from a colleague at Taronga who breeds them. The loss of her hurts especially.
But it could have been worse. They left the pair of Maccy's, and my pair of hatchling Waters. Which suggests they knew what they wanted. And only five people knew about those snakes - Me, my Dad, my Brother, my friend who sold her to me - and the sh1thead who broke in last August.
I'm not going to the Orange Bird Sale tomorrow. I'm sitting at home waiting for the police to come and fingerprint the place, and the landlord is organising someone to come and repair the damaged window and make it secure again.
So if anyone in Western/SouthWestern Sydney is offered an adult pair of Coastals in the next few days, please advise Campbelltown Police. Especially if the snakes are in a black satin pillowcase.
