I work in a prison environment and I am always looking for something with a nice bright focused beam when patrolling at night. It is also a hobby of mine to ensure any prisoners that have troubled me somewhat in the past (or I don't like) are okay by spotlighting them every two hours all night. Not to annoy them, to make sure they are ok. Or the other way around, I that get mixed up sometimes.
I think i'll investigate some of the models mentioned here, it is obvious my good'ol trusty (sometimes) maglite just doesn't compare.

I have a p17 and i love it! Totally worth every penny, they are great torch and adjustable in the size of the light and how bright you want it. The top of the range is x21 but my best mate got one and he said for what it is it's not worth the cost and the p17 is a lot more satisfying.

i just got a H14 headlight the other day for $105 from Anaconda, not bad about as bright as you will get for a headlight.

i would like a powerful torch also but undecided ,i would like to go a hell of alot brighter than the 210 lumens headlight though

$NaKe PiMP, check out this head torch. It puts out a little bit more than the H14, but the price also reflects that.

There are bright torches out there for lower cost than the LED Lenser series. Unfortunately, the thing that makes LED Lenser great is being abole to focus the beam; which I can't find any other torches that do it well.

I've currently got a P7 and have used the MT7 and H7. They are all pretty good and if you shop around you can get a good price. I've also got a x21 on the way. I've also dropped my P7 in the drink when I was out boating and had no problems. It was on at the time so it was easy to fish out of the river.

i just bought a Cree XM-L T6 LED 1600 lumen flashlight for $40 off ebay! I am so excited to get it delivered!!!!

I explore drains quite often and often discuss torches with the people I explore with. Pretty much at the conclusion that Fenix is the best torch brand out there. I have a couple Fenix torches and I do have to say, they're brilliant.

However, I do prefer a handheld torch to a head torch, unless I am caving. Although that's just because they are handier when you're being sneaky and don't want to be caught doing something you're not meant to be doing.

I guess there is a big difference between going herping and urbex though lol....

Best thing about the P7 is that you can buy a mount to fit it to the stock of your gun and then run around the bush like a commando.

i use the p7 when i go away hunting, works brilliant. has never ever let me down & ive had it for ages now.
really do recommend them!

Funnily enough I've been having this exact discussion about torches with myself for some weeks now.

Is the M7R on the ledlenser range actually the P7 or the MT7? possibly something to do with the micro chip for SOS or strobe light function, I can't really work it out, I do like the look of it because it is rechargeable though.

I like the ledlenser lights a lot, although as Daniel said, they are a bit expensive. I was initially looking at the P7, but using AAA batteries completely turned me off, so I went for the P14, which uses AA's and it's a damn fine torch. Also got the M5 last week. It's tiny but still packs a punch, considering it uses 1 x AA battery. Going to be a great focus light when I'm trying to photograph things at night.

I can finally retire my crappy old maglite.
