Why is it legal (in QLD) for pet shops to sell Anataresia pythons but no other kinds? It's a question that has been niggling at me for a while haha!

When I did my reptile course with Martin Fingland, his reasoning was that anyone could come into a Petshop with a carpet or the like and try to sell it to you. Go figure - when blue tongues are allowed. I would say it would be easier for them to catch a bluey in their back yard than a carpet. Anyway that was his reason.

But you can catch Spotteds around Brissy too.. Weird. Thanks though!

i think that is mad crazy .
you should be able to buy like in any other state. you should have to produce your licence to sell or to buy whats the problem john howard wake up and smell the roses

That is very strange seeing that to purchase a reptile form anyone licenses have to be privided as does a record book to see how long the seller has had the animal for. From the understnading of the EPA and before anyone comments I think this is a pile of Rubbish, the reason the animals in particular that are allowed, are actually allowed is they don't get big enough to be considered as doing real harm to anyone that wanted to come in off the street fresh with there new license that just arrived in the mail and buy a 8ft snake or a full grown monitor. There reasoning is simply so they don't have "DANGEROUS" reptiles in pet shops. Like I said I think it is a whole heap of crap and we should all be lobbying the EPA to change it.

Cheers

But you can buy a maccie with small snake syndrom that's only 3ft long but thinks it's a born again eastern brown :) Before all they maccy owners crulle me i know that there are some placid ones out there. And i myself have childerni and stimmies among other species.
But seriously be gratefull you can buy herps from petshop now in QLD, a few years ago it was only a dream and in a few more years tthe EPA could change their policy ( fingerscrossed )
and become aligned like some other state, at least with have a foot in the door so to speak.

Oh don't get me wrong I was only saying why EPA had those rules in place I also said that I didn't like it, as like you said A maccie thinks it is a bron again Brown. Don't get me wrong I wasn't complaining just telling people what I had heard as to why the rules are the way they are.

Cheers

I wasn't having a crack at you. I should have narrowed the quote down to the 'dangerous' bit . i was just saying an angry maccy though small can be just a hand full as with larger pythons and i think it's wrong how the system is, but it's a start. EPA should relize how popular the hobby is and grow it policies to meet it. Though it is still good that we can sell our other offspring priviately to other licience reptile lovers.
