I just finished reading a basic book on Keeping Frogs and was a little confused with the lighting. I understand (I think :? ) about the UV but I am confused about the heat lights.

What is the idea of the red and blue lights? The book said something about it being a nightlite so we can still see Froggie when bright lights are out, but does it have any other purpose? And with a fairly heavy gauze lid, will the light sufficiently penetrate the gauze to do provide what ever it is it has to do :?

Kathy :D

the only heat mine get is from an aquarium heater other then that its 2 UV tubes on top and they seem to be comming along fine

I am setting up for Green Tree Frogs. the tank I have is 60cm long, 30cm wide and 46cm high. Am uncertain what lights or heat lamps (if any) I need to add.

You can use heat mat or heat cord which you can get at specialist reptile stores or pet shops. You use these by placing them under neath the the glass enclosure and they are fine for heating. If your after a light to heat and to be able to see the frogs at night then I would think the purple heat light is best.
Who are you getting them from maybe they can help you with what you need, not that I think any one here on the site minds helping. :D

Green tree frogs need no lighting or heat source at all and can be kept fine at room temp. don't waste your money.

Pretty much, they can handle very low temps, just as long as one third of the years day time temps are above 25 so they can feed. If you live in a cold climate a heat mat under the tank heating the water may be recomended for raising morphs. Green Tree frogs inhabit some very frosty area's around Australia. Other Green Frogs eg. Red Eyes, White Lipped ect will require heating. but still not a harsh heating like a globe puts out.
