Ok maybe im confused but what is the difference in lizards to skinks?

i have come across 2 websites where they explain the Bluey *blue tongue* but here is my confusion..... one refers to them as lizards and the other skinks? please explain the difference... .My understanding is that they are from the same family just the lizard is the larger of the 2 ???

skinks are a type of lizard along with dragons and monitors, they all come under the heading of lizards but skinks is like a group of lizards with similar charachteristics.

A blue tongue skink is a blue tongue lizard, just like a carpet snake is a carpet python. Although a green tree snake isnt the same as a green tree python.

Basically common names can be whatever you want.

the site may have called them Tiliqua or Tiliqua scincoides, Tiliqua is the genus name and scincoides is the species name

There is a lizard with a blue tounge in my avatar, so i guess technically it is a blue tounged lizard too :?
