Hey guys I own a Nikon d60 and want to buy a macro lense,

I really want the micro-Nikor 105mm but it's out of my price range, can any one recommend a cheaper good quality lens for shooting herps

Ben

Is there a sigma equivalent? I have a sigma 105mm lens which is pretty damned awesome if I must say so myself!

What sort of price range were you hoping for?

The best bet would be to have a look around and see if you can pick up a Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro. They've been discontinued so you should be able to get them relatively cheap i.e. $400 - $500.

Otherwise you can look into getting extension tubes for the lenses you already have or look into reverse mounted lenses for macro. However, both of these option are generally more suited to close-up photography than the 105mm lenses. It depends on what sort of herps you really want to photograph and how?

I've been looking into a Tamron 90mm Macro, shop around & you can get a proper Aussie import (not a grey import) for <$600.
I haven't tried one yet, but have heard good comments from a number of people, & seen some outstanding photos from people using this lens.
I'm in the same boat, the Nikkor 105mm is out of my reach too.

I recomend the tamron 90mm though all seem to do a good macro (and have tried all those mentioned). It is fantastic and can be had for under $400 if you don't mind import (ebay).

The shots of my flickr ... Scott Eipper are mostly taken with a sigma 105 dg macro
