Hi guys, I have a 5yr old Coastal Carpet who is really not moving much...I am a little concerned as this seems a bit out of character. He doesn't even move much when I get him out for a cuddle. I've tried putting him in slightly awkward positions where he would always have readjusted himself quite quickly but he still doesn't move. I put him in his viv last night, ontop of his hide, and all he did was move a little (maybe to get comfy) and was in exactly the same place this morning. He has refused his last two feeds, but he can be a bit fussy anyway, and I am pretty sure that both my snakes have somehow got mites so have been treating them, but he was like this before I thought he had mites. I thought he might be acting weird coz of mites, but he shouldn't have any on him anymore. The other night he also had pressed his head so tightly between his glass wall and his hide that I could start to see the skin behind his eyeballs!...I don't know of any reptile vets in Townsville to take him to but will be checking...
His previous owner had used him successfully for breeding, which I have not had time for yet, and I did read that they can get funny in breeding seasons, could it be that?

He could be getting ready to brumate. Refusing food and reduction in activity is a pretty good sign and if he has been bred it is likely his previous owner did cool him. You may still want to get him checked out by a vet if you're worried though and just make sure you're absolutely certain he doesn't have mites
