yep he is a nutta....... probably a junky too.....i would rather see the mamba bite him then a needle in his arm

I think his IQ is 27. When I watched the documentary, I thought he was going to let the mamba tag him. I thought that I was about to witness something go terribly wrong..

venom junkie... i watched the show and i still dont understand what he's trying to prove..

I've seen it before on another doco. The theory is to build up an immunity to that particular venom by small, controlled doses until you can take a lethal dose with little more than a migraine, only the fella I saw was doing a whole cocktail of vens native to the states, as he bred and milked those particular ones for antivenom. He said it works, personally I wouldn't do it, but go right ahead anyone else; I'll just stick to pythons.

Yeah it was I think, this was years ago now though, long before I had reps myself. I agree about the needles; when it comes to vens I only ask myself one question: Would I be willing to stick myself with antivenom? The answer is no, so as beautiful as I find RBBs and other vens sadly I'll never own any :(

I think that it is rediculous, but however if he wants to kill himself trying to prove that small doses of venom can somehow cause immunity to that venom, then he in my books he can do what he likes, bloody good luck to him.
I just hope that someone is documenting his findings or is it just for junkie.

Cheers
Ian

Considering he was still sitting there talking at the point where he should've been slipping into a coma I think he has proved it, but it was proven well before he did it. It makes sense really; if you're going to work with these animals in breeding programs, or milk them for antivenom, it's better to develop that immunity to minimise the risk of death if you can. But as I said, it's not for me, it just sounds logical to me.

well if one ever needed antivenom only dr's can do it, and IF i ever needed it i wouldnt mind needles that bad, im going to get some elapids, not today not tomorrow but sometime and the rbb is my first choice. a breeder not far from me has some beautiful rbb's and bbb's and most other elapids.

Cut me some slack, I have the flu lol. Nah, still don't like doctors sticking me either, so I'll just look but not touch ;)

i personally dont think it will work building up immunity because not all bites would deliver the same amount of venom, so u shoot up 50mg each time and then u get tagged with say 70mg id say your still in trouble... i may be wrong as im no venom expert.

This is true, but a lethal dose is a lethal dose, so logically if I were doing it I'd research how much the maximum amount of venom that particular breed could produce in a couple of bites then work up to around twice that. Then again as I've said, it's not my cup of tea, so if they want to sit around all day injecting themselves with venom more power to 'em, just don't go near my arm. :/
