as close as i have got with any other method i have tried... i'd put the snake in the pic at around 4 feet (1200mm) and the program says 1183mm. Really depends on what you use to "calibrate" it (ruler or something that you can physically measure) and how accurate you can place the points on the snakes spine. A few markers in the wrong spot can put it out by 5-10cm depending on snake size

can someone explain to me the importance of measuring the length of a snake reguraly ??? i understand mabye weighing them regualy.

thanks

i only do it every now and then for curiosity sake, dont record it in the snakes records though, just comes in handy if people want to know their length. And saving the pics is a good way to show people who might not otherwise see the snake.

Its so that when your down the pub telling the girls about the size of your snake you aren't inadvertently misleading them.

Being a Scaffolder most of my life I have an eye for lengths and I'm usually very close...H/M is accurate, but I'm with Donks, whats the point, near enough is good enough

I totally agree with cris. Ask yourself why do you want to measure your snake? Do you need (if you need) to take SV or total length measurements? How often? What is it going tell you?
They stretch and shrink like a chewing gum resulting in mostly meaningless measurement figure. Body weight is far more accurate and useful data point.

Oh maybe the scales are complete out???? I use digital cat scales at work. Do you know what they should be?

Let them roam around the house, sooner or later when you're asleep one will come and lay next to you stretched out straight. ;)

Quote: What type of snake is it, Fenno?

It's an adult female Bredli. Now I'm a bit worried she is porky. I have measured her using the string technique since reading this thread and she is approx 8.5ft give or take.
