Alright so I had a spotty but sadly she passed away, she did have a mite problem and she was in a melamine enclosure.

Iv'e cleaned it out chucked everything in there and taken the vents off to make sure they weren't hiding there. I cleaned the track where the glass sits and sprayed it all down with mite spray.(I might have used most of the can -_-) its now sitting outside airing out.

But, as you know melamine can warp and bloat. Which it has done a bit just where one bit joins onto another. So my concern is this: Can the mites be living INSIDE the melamine? or living in between the joins? I sprayed those spots (might have drowned those spots >_>) especially to make sure. But I'm still not too sure they are dead. I didn't see any after I had cleaned and sprayed but thats not to say they aren't still there. I also used antibacterial hand wash and kitchen spray I know they probably wont do much, but I'm just really paranoid.

I'm contemplating just buying a new enclosure for Freya when shes too big for her click clack.

Should I keep the old one or get a new one?

Sorry about the essay, just concerned is all.

Your enclosure was not finished properly. All joins should be sealed with silicone such that they are water proof. This then allows you to wash the enclosure down with household bleach when cleaning it. This will also kill anything organic. Sealing also deprives mite of places to hide in the structure of the enclosure itself.

As to whether or not you need a new enclosure, it depends upon whether you can seal it now and to what degree the structural strength of he affected joins has been affected.

Mite are great travellers. How far away was the clock-clack? Have you thoroughly checked it for mite?

I got my spotty in year 6 and she came in that tank I'm 24 now and it was never sealed. The cages are at seperate ends of the house and I had a shower and put different clothes on before going back to my room so, the click clack having mites is very very low.

I might just buy her a new tank, I don't trust that old one.
