Hey guys,

Im in Bali at the moment, and after going to Turtle Island and stuff my girlfriend has decided she wants pet turtles. I have a few questions about this.

In Melbourne I have only seen long necked turtles for sale. Is it possible to get other types of turtles, and if so roughly how much are we looking at? What size tanks would you need roughly?

Also, in the hotel here there is a pond with turtles I have been told are called Brazil Turtles. They have coloured striped down the sides of their heads. Can you get these anywhere in Australia?

Sorry for all the questions, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

I have 4 Murry Shortneck turtles at home
These guys are clean compared to the long necks. They don't squirt when you pick them up for one.
If you have a license there is more variety but without you can only keep the long neck and the short neck.

I have foudn the the prices in Vic for turts is expensive. I got my 4 over in Mount Gambier and they cost me $50 for the first two and $55 for the next 2. I think they are about $60 now.
The problem is they are a little under the legal size limit but with slight over feeding they do grow very quickly.
The size of the short necks at 30 to 35cm and the long necks are slightly smaller

I saw Kreffts in Ballarat that were $400 but basic license required

Here is the license list for Vic - have a look through here and see if there is a turtle you like

I have a licence and she will get one if needed, so thats not a problem. Thanks for the information guys.
