JulyAug 2010 041.jpgnew snakenhas muff snake 067.jpgIMG_3772.jpghi all, ive nevr owned a pet rat before, but this little rodent friend of mine, is more precious to me than i ever imagined.
He seems to have no fear of my snakes, nor does the cat bother him(im sure she'd kill him if left alone.)
he does have a problem with 'protienecious penis plugs', several times a day,-well he is a male living alone-he knows not what he does)
Anyway here's some pictures!
Hope some1appreciates the gentle little creatures a muchas i do

Be very careful about the rat around the snake. I've found that some rats/mice have a freaky instinctive knowledge that a snake means danger and could potentially attack/bite it. Even when a rat/mouse has never seen a snake before, they just seem to know. Cute looking rat though

so cute i love rats too, he looks a bit fat in that last photo but hehe, he seems very happy. I think they are awesome pets with alot of personality. Have fun :)

jub2, rat and snake 1st july 023.jpgtongue 006.jpgsoundfix 012.jpgjub2, rat and snake 1st july 026.jpgIMG_0152.jpgYer, we call that-Kingus Rattus. he's laying on my bed, grooming himself, while infront of the tele.
Couldnt resist some more, -I love the one were he's asleep in a paper bag. Anywhere will do!! His little 'positions' and the place he turns up, never cease to amaze me.
You would have to have onw to know what i mean, but they have the ability to show appreciation, usually for grooming, in return my rat will attemp to clen that finger that scratch/cleans him.
Hi favourit foods are, bananas, yogurt avacado, fresh corn, grains and oats.and if he's been a good boy, he likes to go olutside and play in our water fountain!WOULD LOVE TO SEE OTHER PET RATS!!
That photo of him sitting up looks hilariously fat

precious huh so precious as to put her in front of a coastals nose, cool rat but crap photo looks like your trying to live feed your precious rat to a python seriously rodents and carpets dont really mix together well unless its meal time.

Not reallt the thtead for it, but it never ceases to amaze me, why others find it so hard to except. Not all snakes lash out at every chance. My snakes are well fed, as is my cat.We take for granted every day that other petsie; cats, can be trusted to leave around the house, with snakes.
Cats have a way of knowing whats off limits in our house and it seems the snakes do to. The Coastal, actually always approaches the ra or cat for a sniff, once indentified, he moves away.I understand, that no snake can be trusted regarding eating other pets, but a cat is actually far more insticual and uncontrollable, when it comes to murdering other animalsw, and eatig them alive. At least my snakes are fussy.I dont know.
I am usually alot more concerned that the cats cant/wont ever get into my snake tank. And after that its hoping the Bull terrier in the yard, doesnt savage the cat!its depends how youve socialised your pets, and ive had them all from young. Each to their own.

These are my 3. Buster and Conrad in their house, and Robin, the hooded rat :)Buster and Conrad.jpgRobin.jpg

no offense but have you kept snakes long? By comparing its behaviour to your domesticated pet cat is seems you havent. Simon stone quoted in one reptile aust mag ages ago regarding snakes as complex predators and obligate carnivors you cant compare their behaviour to that of a pet cat or dog . Ive kept them for five years now and to me that quote sums them up the best as pets. If you keep flashing that rat in front of your coastals nose you are asking for trouble.

One pic that includes the snake, doesntb really add up to 'keep flashing it in front of its nose'.
That would be cruel to both of them.
I have only kept snakes and lizards a few years,
I was in no way comparing to cats, dogs, only in a way, that we choose to keep these as pets and they are all part of MY household. Each to there own.

absolutely! there are definetely always exceptions to snakes behaviour they seem to a have certain personality and intelligence about them especially with the people who keep them. As i said earlier cool rat they definetely make good pets ive become attached to a couple over the past few years. Only problem is they dont live long enough.

Cute pics soundfix, here's some of mine as well as some babies that i am waiting to see how they turn out.
