I took him out of his enclosure and put him into a clickclack to change his astroturf. Well..I got a bit carried away and rearranged most of the tank as well as added HEAPS of greens and new hides for him. I also bought a heat rock yesterday which is in there (I want him to get on it and try it out!). I put him back in there and instead o running around like he usually does, he's just sitting there staring at it all like "WTH, how did that happen?" Now he's slowly creeping around, investigating. He looks like a scared horse who's ready to turn and run at any moment. The enclosure looks so much nicer though; it's amazing what green can do!

Pics would be nice...just one small tip when adding greenery to a beardie's cage, bear in mind he might try to eat any plastic greenery as well as his food, just ensure he can't swallow any.

Had to smile at the description of your beardie when he saw his new enclosure. :)

Post piccies if you can!

sounds like great rennovations fro him!!

but heat rocks can cause really bad burns cos beardys dont sense heat to well thru their bellies, if i were u i'd take it out or not plug it in,...

I'll take photos once my battery is charged!

Tan; It's avery tough plastic! It took me lots of sawing to get a knife through it.

Chris; This heat rock only gets up to about 28*, it has a built in thermometer that stops it getting any hotter than that. Will it still cuase burns at that temp?

Cool then, hope he enjoys his new home, my reference was to the type of greenery where the individual leaves pull off, so you should be fine.
Cheers

Yeah mine aren't liek that. They are all connected with wire. Thanks for the heads up though =D Appreciated.

28C shouldnt burn, i guess with a thermostat that cuts out @ that temp it should be fine,...just test it yourself and make sure it works properly. just heard some horrible stories thats all,..

looking forward to seeing the pics, make sure beardys in when u take em,.. :)

Yeah I used it on the python from the pet store and I had it on for three days straight and it never got any hotter. That mac loved to sit on it all day.

And Robbie's in right now, he's sitting under some leaves just looking at me. I want him to explore the higher levels! He ran around a bit before and as soon as he landed on the heat rock he stopped and just sat on it for a few minutes then went back to exploring.

Hot rocks can heat up between the rock and the animal causing burns, I dont recomend them at all.Just be careful. The overall temp might be thermostated but what about the temp between the reptile and rock.

I'm fairly confident the heat rock is fine. If it starts getting too hot, I'll remove it immediately.

Astroturf is like fake grass.

I got it from bunnings. Mine was about $30 for a metre square white I only use about 3/4s of for my tank.

Dont give your beardie acid and it wont trip out man:lol:

Horsy, i think you should take DC's advice, he is one of the best breeders around.

donk

The enclosure. It looks worse when the flash brightens it up. Darkens the green too much I think.

He likes one of the new accessories!

Awwww he's a cutie ;)

I will say 2 things though just to be annoying, apparently the heat rocks are notorious for malfunctioning which is why they'll get way too hot and cause serious burns. I'm sure they're harmless while the thermostat is working but I've heard many stories about ones that have failed. Personally I think it's better to be safe than sorry! Especially with a beardie so devastatingly cute  ;). Secondly, just for my own paranoia have you screwed or somehow secured that ladder in? Actually I think I see a hook or something on the back end of it maybe?

Okay I'll remove the heat rock. He still has his heat lamp and I'm going to get him a basking lamp so I guess he wouldn't need it anyway!
And yeah the ladder is tied to the branch where the hooks are :)

He's about 8 months. I was concerned because he's still so small and i've been told they are usually almost fully grown at this age and he has hardly grown at all in the last 4-5 months. He eats heaps and sheds but he's just not growing! I was told not to worry though and that he'd probably have a big growth spurt one day.
