 I fed him a fuzzy rat on the 27th, and he still had a buldge yesterday. My first snake so I wasn't sure how long till the bulge should be gone, anyway. I wasn't handling him or anything, temps in click clack were all good and he always had water. When I woke up he was half laying out of his hide with a little bit of yellowish liquid on the news paper around his mouth, and a bad smell, like something was rotten. My heart sank when I saw him:cry: can anyone tell me what may have happened?

I'm so sorry, I'm definitely not an expert but I think it must be something to do with indigestion or along the lines of that:?

Yea. Such a shame he was a beautiful little snake and I feel so bad, I only had him about a week. I couldn't help but cry.

Inside and out looked healthy? Not sure, what's mouth rot?

did it have a melted cheese kind of a covering over the gums?

if it did then it was mouth rot/canker

that is what my book says atleast

so sorry bout the whole thing
some times it just does not work out
(not your fault of corse)

Sorry for your loss, have you ruled out the food as the culprit? completely defrosted, trusted food source, etc?

Yea Shaun food was defrosted but I'm not sure of the brand and how old it was? Did get it from a pet shop but It had that smell of being frozen for a while. I suppose I'll never really know what did it, which is the hardest for me.

Cheers Dylan.

Do you have any detailed pics? Perhaps some of the more experienced herpers can give some more possible answers from them.

Just exactly how hot was the click clack? was the heat kept on 24/7?
How large was the snake verses the feed size?

Sounds like the animal wasn't getting warm enough to digest the food , potential bad food source could also be to Blame

I would recommend revisiting your husbandry and double checking your equipment , temps and measuring devices just to make sure you have everything correctly setup before contemplating a replacement

One end was 30 other 23, i was only using a heat mat, heat was on 24/7. I read while their digesting it's best to have on 24/7? and the food was 1.5 times the thickest part of his body.

Thanks kupper will take all into account next time.

Will do kupper. Thanx for the advice.

to me sounds like bad food
nothing else suggests problems

Im so sorry for your loss. Perhaps the food was harvesting bacteria?
Did you get the food from a petshop?
If you need anything just ask. Sorry again :(

dunno but if its bad food then it could be ruled as the culprit by taking the snake to the vet and getting a blood test...somewhat like they do to dead humans, if its inconclusive a possible autopsy may find the cause.
