I found him in the corner of the room where my sister-inlaw and her two kids are staying.

It is the second spider in two weeks (the first one, which I still have is a adult white tail - I will post pictures of it soon...)

BTW. Both my boys got very upset when I did not let them pat it!!!

He is the biggest Funnel Web that I have found, but he has quite a bit of brown on him... (an't tell from the photo as he is a bit wet!).

Lets see how long he lasts at my house. I have to keep hiding him from my wife...who has a can or surface spray with her at all times.

arg spiders, only spiders i like are the cool little jumping spiders and those really smart ones that eat spiders.

basically i don't might em as long as i know they are there and where they are! i hate it when they just surprise me!

Just remember you have the deadliest spider in the world there Alex, probably only live at the most for 2yrs as it a mature male.
Would have been in your house as it's looking for females, which is very weird for this time of year.

Just be very careful they are a stubborn spider and very agro, i've kept them in the past and they demand respect.
Be sure it can't escape and make sure they have plenty of places to hide and a good depth of peat moss in its enclosure to burrow.

And be careful most important.

Steve and Naomi.

Lucky bugger... As Steve and Naomi said; Respect!!!...truely a unique spider

We had the place sprayed about 3 months ago for spiders - and we are keeping him only to show the pest guy when he comes, after that I will prob. take the kids up to the Gosford Reptile Park for a visit and donate him to them...

I am unsure as to why he decided to go for a walk. It has been very cold her over the last three weeks, we have had no rain and it is not mating season... we did have the lawn mowed on Wednesday, so perhaps he was disturbed or even came with the lawn mower man...

He does not look to well, and is quite sluggish...so it will be interesting to see if he makes it.

BTW. He does not look like any funnel web that I have ever seen...do they Sydney ones somtimes have brown on them... also the pedipalps look very big and he has very small spinnerets (almost invisible).

Is he a "sydney funnel web" or a different species...?

I'd say Sydney FW, he's probably coming up to the end of his life. He looks like he's had a couple of regenerations with his legs.
He does look very raggy.

Lucky to see one though awesome animals.

May be a little - he has some fluff on him from his journey into my house. I wanted to get it off him for his photo shoot but he did want too let me get that close.

He does not look as shiny as some of the smaller ones I have seen.

Its the brown on him that I have never seen before...

send it to the arp alex, they need mature males like that one for milking

I have just paid for a years subscription to AHS, on there website it mentioned that I can flash my membership when it arrives and get the family and I in for free...so I shall go baring gifts...(might wait until after the long weekend though...)

Here are some more pictures...

Here is a beter picture of his colours...

and his new temp home till we get him up too ARP.

I put in a meal worm last night and this morning he has webbed up a bit and the meal worm appears to have been eaten.

I will take another pic on sat. before he goes.

Alex.

White tail...

Here is a picture of the white tail we found in the same spot in the house a week ago...

Not the biggest one I have seen but not a bad size none the less.

Did your FW make it to his new home

Kind of, he is halfway there?

I am waiting for my AHS membership to come through then I was going to take the kids for a visit to ARP, and take the FW up with us.

As anyone who has 6 and 5 year olds will testify, nothing is safe no mater where it is kept, so rather than risk the health of my kids (or the spider for that mater). We have found him some temporary accommodation (at my parent?s house) ? so next stop ARP, with more pictures to follow of course?.

scarey stuff those spiders
This is the sort of thing i don't understand.Marc you'll tackle any elapid anytime but a sper scares you.I'm not having a go at all but i'm sure you know what i mean.Tackling a worked up brown or taipan on a hot day in the middle of a chook shed, now that's scary stuff to me but you take it in your stride so to speak.

That's it Browns, a lot of people have an irrational fear of snakes, but even more so with spiders. It surprised me when I first got into herps, the amount of herpers that are scared of/are disgusted by/think spiders should be squished  . I found that interesting because at the time there was a lot of people whinging about how someone said to them that snakes need a 'shotgun', but then on this site, plently mentioned the baygon and squashing jokes, and called me a freak and said they were disgusting  . I understand the irrational fear behind spiders, not having a go at anyone, just found it interesting to find that reaction in the reptile hobby. You can get a spider to crawl onto your hand and have much less of a chance of being bitten by it than tailing a brown.
