This is the tank my father and i made over the holidays, it's 1200mm wide by 1300 high (a bit over 4 feet by 4 feet). It has a reptapet infra red light bulb controlled by a probe thermostat. I was going to use astroturf (fake grass) but i decided it's easier with newspaper and he is use to it, i kept a platform on the left of the tank with the astroturf on it to give him some variety.

One question, i was wandering if the infra red light doesnt effect his eyes, as it says on the box it is for nocturnal viewing and doesnt effect normal night cycles. I have heard that the light (infra red) is invisible to pythons, is this true?

Anyway please comment on my tank or ask any questions.

All comments are greatly appreciated.

That looks excellent. It'd look even better with some river stones as substrate, or sand or something! But even as is you've given me some great ideas and it looks real beautiful. How do you go cleaning crap out of the leaves?

EDIT: just more pics didn't work

Well done.. funky looking snake and nice pic with it's tongue flickering.

Pics, see if this works

I was actually going to silicon some whit stones to mesh and connect to astroturf (which i might still do). With the leaves i can just distach them and wash them. But he has only done wees on the bottom of the tank.

What kind of carpet is he? Coastal? (I don't know my carpets very well).

Also where did you buy the branches for the tank? Does he like climbing on them?

EDIT: also love the way it's just two sheer sliding glass panels. Was that hard to achieve? How much did the whole thing cost you?

Nice tank, Do you have any form of heating at the bottom of the tank ie strip wire or mat or is the light at the top suitable to maintain temps ?He 's certainly got plenty of space to explore.:)

Looks great!! Love the big branch in the centre and the pots for the hides, how did you make the holes big enough in the base?

About the infra red question, from my own observations, yes, the pythons can still see the light to some degree but it doesn't seem to make a big impact on them. In his early days, my DP used to stop moving when his red heat lamp would come on and then resume being active when it went off. It was like watching him play that old game 'statues'. lol

Great looking enclosure. Your carpet python is sure to be happy in there! The branch in the middle is great for climbing. Have you painted it with a water based clear paint to make cleaning it easier?

PhilK he is an jungle python (well a Atherton tableland), the branches are real. Cut them off some trees, i bleached them to get rid of all the mites and stuff. He LOVES climbing, a lot of the time when he is awake he is climbing in between the vines on the branches :D.

The two sliding glass panels is actually quite easy to acheive, just got tracks for them with ball bearings.

Well it cost:
$20 for display cabinet
$260 for: glass, glass lock, tracks
$30 for artificial plants from Home Stop
Thermostat from his old tank ($70, i think)
$25 for Repta Infrared light
Total cost = $335

cracksinthepitch i live in Coffs so temps usually pretty good, but i might put in heat mat

i just drilled in the ceramic pots for the holes and then sanded them smooth (ceramic pots are upside down, so it makes a great hide having a small entrance should make him feel so secure) , no i haven't painted the branch, would it lose it's texture if you paint it?

Beautiful stuff. Will be making a big enclosure too. Gonna use some of your ideas! The branch will be the hardest bit. (And I thought that the glass might've been the most expensive!

very nice set up.congrats on a job well done. Also love the jungle.

One more question. What're the dimensions (in cm please hahaha)?

A two-dimensional enclosure. THAT'S a feat of engineering hahaha. What's the depth?
