So! I have a tiny problem. I have to go overseas 2011 january and was just wondering what options do I have with my 2 snakes? I called up the vet in kessels road and they said they don't have a boarding room yet for people like me to leave their beloved pets in the care of a vet. What do i do? I will be going for 2 weeks and a half and no one close to me is into snakes and they are all pretty much afraid. Thanks in advance for helping!

As long as you give them a nice feed right before you leave they will be ok till you get back, just the water is a problem,im sure someone here could help you with that though.people in brissie raise da hands!

Yeah food is no problem coz im only gone for 2 and a half weeks. its just the water and the newspaper bedding lol. if my gf didn't go with me then she would be able to but we're going together. and i don't really wanna leave unattended. don't want anything to happen to em =(. please help lol

If you have some reptile keeping friends with clean collections (no disease) why dont you ask them if you can board your animals with them for the period your away? At least then you know that someones watching over them for you. they should be fine though if they are a decent size and get a good feed and clean water before you go and are only gone 2 and a half weeks.

That's the problem none of my friends keep reptiles. I could definitely ask them if they did but none of them do that's why I came here to ask for help =(.

Snakes are pretty hardy and surely go that long without water mine rarely drink and they get water from there food.
As for the bedding id just not feed them to make sure the snakes guts are cleaned out before you go.
Ive had problem snakes go for months on end with out a feed so 2 weeks or so aint going to hurt one bit lol.
If it was me id make sure all food was out of there system and just fill up the water bowl before i go.
Thats what i do when i go on holidays as the reptile room heating and lights is all on timers and have never had a problem.

What happens if it urinates and it doesn't get cleaned? harmful? coz if i leave it then it definitely won't get changed for the 2 weeks and a half that im gone.

Have you tried looking around your area to see if there are any pet sitting services (that will deal with reptiles) that can come to your house and care for your animals while you're away?

urine is only harmful if your snake is sitting in wet urine for weeks, in a heated cage urine drys pretty damn quick.
Ive been away for round 3 weeks or so at a time and never had a health issue from it.
And i make sure all my snakes guts are empty before i go so they dont dirty there cage when im away.
In 8 years never had a problem with a sick snake due to being on holiday.

Yeah i've been looking and i've found two but i haven't called them up yet. I need to call them up and see how it works. its hard not having any friends who are into reptiles. lol

well that'll be the last resort for me. my woma would be 13 months in january 2011 and 24 month spotted. so they should survive without being fed for a month anyway. hmmm i might just leave them. its hard tho. lol

I leave all of mine for weeks on end, and have never really had any dramas. Just make sure they have plenty of water (bigger bowls and areas that aren't under branches etc) and the enclosures are clean before you leave. That's the beauty about owning reptiles...low maintenence ;)

Unless you have a really starving animal on your hands, which I doubt, I'd also recommend what 'thefewwhosurvive84' mentioned and don't worry about feeding them. Less mess for you to clean up when you return.

yeah i'll get a bigger water bowl definitely. I'll just feel better too if i left them with someone whos experienced. lol

try 2 seperate water bowls, less chance of them both getting pooped in.

i herd a rumor that maria from stafford pet super store does reptile sitting this woman is fantastic

l would feed them up but stop one week before you leave , this will leave no undigested food in them . Then lots of newspaper , two big water bowls and turn off the power . You live in Brissy and it will be summer . This way there will be no tragic thermostat malfunctions to cook your snakes . They would be fine like this for a month .

Well IMO make some new friends who have reptiles.

I have left mine for 2 weeks without food they were fine I have a big crockery pot filled with water that had enough for them while I went away...They will be fine. Good luck..
Jungletrans summer ends here soon and it starts to get cooler...

Snakelove what type of snakes have you got???
