I’m looking after a friend’s children’s python. I think there’s an issue with either the thermostat or bulb, or both. It has been tripping the circuit, and now the heat/cool function isn't working and the tank was overheating.

I can’t find a manual for the thermostat online, only some set up videos which don’t address the issues I’m having.

The setup:
Get Your Pet Right Thermo Hygrostat
Reptile One 150 Watt Infrared heat lamp
Temp set to stay between 31-32C
Humidity 55-65%

I believe the bulb to be pretty new and the thermostat to be maybe 2 years old. It was working fine for the first few days. Last night the power tripped and the thermostat and heat switched off. I fixed the issue, and then it tripped again this morning. This afternoon, I checked on him and the heat had risen to 42c without any changes to the settings. The lid of the tank was hot to touch and the external part of the light fixture was too hot to touch with bare hands. It was 35 degrees today where I live but relatively normal temperature inside the room the enclosure is in.

I noticed the A light on the right hand of the thermostat was not lit, and the Heat/Cool light was not lit either. Only the humidity and B & C lights were on. I’ve been fiddling around with the bulb (changing it to a different one and back again), cables and left the lid off for a while to let the tank cool down & put an ice pack over his hide temporarily.

The A and heat/ cool lights randomly turned back on for a few minutes, and then off again. I’m assuming the thermostat either isn’t connecting properly to the bulb or the heat/cool function is being temperamental, and therefore not switching the bulb off when the temperature exceeds 32.

I unscrewed the bulb and had a look at the fitting, is the black colouration inside normal?

Does anyone have any clue? I don’t wanna stress this little guy out, and also don’t want my house to catch on fire.

Thanks!
