my lil hatchy is going on 10.5 weeks is very thin and loose skin is ready to shed but cant seem to do it due to very loose skin and is drying out to the point she cant move. I have been assist feeding her medium rat tails and pinky mice/yoke lately, today I have put a large water dish in the container with a heat mat under half the container to raise humidity and provide some rough texture to help her, I soaked her to make her feel abit better. is there anything else you would suguest to help her shed? I did think about giving her a pinky mouse maybe might help loosen the skin so she can start shedding.

Is she not eating? What's the go? Have you spoken to the breeder you got her from. Is there a vet you can see?

snakes don't normaly eat wen shedding, also her water should be cold if its warm then its to hot for them. try some shedding pray and just bathing her everyday.

I have the odd hatchy that can have that problem in the beginning. Get tepid (make sure the temp is NOT too warm) water and keep soaking. Takes time but eventually will come off. NEVER pull it off the eyes. You have to be patient. The ones that I have had to do this for have ended up fine.

I bred this one, she came out of the egg with her embilical cord wrapped up in a knot around her tummy, wont eat on her own and so has lost alot of condition, I have assist fed her and am due to feed her again tomorrow, I'm worried about her as she's my first baby in a few years and I dont wont her to take a turn for the worse :( I need to give her some yoke and pinky mouse tomorrow so hopefully this helps her abit as well as some more bathing.

I know this already I have 7 adult snakes that I've raised from hatchlings and yearlings but this is the first I have bred bhps so dealing with an ongoing problem most breeders go through with such young babies is all new to me :)

Oh I see, that's no good. She was behind from the start :( you can only do your best with it. Priority number one is getting food in her gut. I know how hard it can be to get the little buggers eating. Boggles the mind thinking of how they survive in the wild. Hoefully she starts eating and gets some condition back. Good luck.

Pythons rule, I have had a BHP that this has happened to and turned out fine. Got to soak that skin off asap. Then feed it.

i know your experienced, just thought i'd remind you as you mentioned a heat mat under the water bowl which can make the water hot and if she gets in may be to hot for her. also have you tried herpaboost maybe mix some with the egg yoke. i have 29 pythons at the moment, i have some problem feeders, some bad shedders and some perfect pythons. from hatchies to adults never a dull moment with this lot.

I am just affirming what your order of priorities should be, as already stated by Fay. What is most urgent is to get it to shed or you may have major problems. The feeding can wait for what ever number of days, without putting it in jepoardy.

In addition to the good advice already given, you might want to try placing it in moist towelling and let it wriggle between the layers. At night time you can also try keeping it over night (in its container) inside of a moist calico snake bag, moistened towelling bag or even a damp a pillow slip.

To moistened towels or towelling, wet it throughly then hand wring out asd much water as you can.

BHPs are notorious for being slow to get feeding as hatchies.
