Last night when I went into feed my Jungle Hatchling (approx 1.5mths old) and I noticed her head was doing this funny jerking/nodding motion. I had read that some pythons can have acute neurological issues which can cause such a thing. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this/will it get worse/ what can I do to help her. I have booked and appointment to take her to the vet tomorrow to see if they have any idea. Also, she did eat fine and seemed all okay apart from that head jerking.
I will try and get a video of it up shortly.

is she doing it often or is it just the once you have seen her do it
Sometimes they do get very excited if they think they are going to be fed.........

Are it's breeding lines pure?
Good luck with vet.

could be anything. there are about a thousand differentials for neuro issues

Does that mean a lot of captive bred herps have neuro issues? Not trying to start a debate, just wondering?

nope, its not to common , but alot of keepers dont tell anyone when they have a snake with neuro issues so wouldnt shock me if its more common then i think. all that means is that there can be plenty of different causes.

Some hatchlings will move there heads around continually and bend there heads back over there necks while aiming to strike at you while observing them.
Jungle hatchlings are sort of hyper alert because are so fearfull of being eaten .And will bend and twist themselves into knots and do all sorts of iratic movements .
Real nuero issues are not common in jungle hatchlings,
Sometimes overheating during incubation may course neuro issues in hatchlings.

There are also other reasons why neuro issues can show up in pythons , either from toxidity from chemicals , etc over doses of worming meds or anti biotics. Or overheating a enclosure can also course neuro issues and weakness.
But this is usually in older pythons.

Hi all,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back. But, I have been monitoring her and she has not done it since then and the vet didnt offer much help and suggested I just keep watching her. So, at the moment I will just put it down to a bit of over excitement at the prospect of some dinner. But, If anything does happen or I see her doing it again I will be sure to keep you all updated. Thanks to everyone for your interest and advise.
In regards to her lines as far as I am aware they are pure, I viewed both of her parents when I bought her and they both were sounds animals.
