Hey all, have had my first pet python (Murray darling) for several months now and have had no issues what so ever perfect eater, no problems with shedding and great temperament (How lucky am I). Last night when I went to feed her I noticed the skin on her head (about half) looked like it was ready to shed but I have not seen her eyes go milky or any other indications that she is ready to shed. Any ideas on what going on here would be great, hopefully my photo upload works it should show her extra "crinkly" skin on her head and on her eye. any advice would be great.

Hi cmitch,
From what you describe I wouldn't be too concerned. Both my SW Carpet and my Woma have had this and from my observations it was just from them rubbing themselves against various things in their vivariums. ie rocks, branches and gravel/sand substrate. The SW Carpet would do it mostly after eating. My Woma does it from its burrowing instincts. Having said that, I would always carefully observe its behaviour for any changes as a general health check.
When my pythons were preparing to shed they would go into hiding so if yours is still active its possibly just some skin being rubbed off.
Hope this helps.

cheers timbo, she seems to be fine and is about due for a shed? I'm assuming it leaves when they shed? also guessing this is more common as their skin gets looser/older/less fresh (not sure what the right word is there) ?
