Hey guys i just recently bought a new python he is an 8 foot male coastal python was told he had eaten 3 months ago but he has not eaten while we have owned him tonight we were handiling him and he lost 2 scales as he was slithering throught a mates hand i have never had a snake lose his scales he seems healthy but could do with a little fattening up.have tried to feed him but he shows no interest at all any ideas on trying to get him to eat would be appreciated and any ideas on the scale loss would be good.

Try different food like quil mice or rat some snakes are fussy . I have a darwin yhat will only eat mice . As for the scales no idea maybe it had a bit of shed left on a few scales . If not the shed . Doesnt sound like a good sign

The loss of scales is clearly abnormal. It may or may not be related to his loss of appetite. I would suggest the most appropriate course of action would be to get it seen by a reptile experienced vet.

There is little point in going though the ways to get snakes back on their tucker if the source of the problem is an infection, as the loss of scales would indicate. So get that ruled out and we might be able to help.
