Hi
I was wondering dose the temp of your encloure have any bearing on growth rates.
Any help would be good.
Thanks!

hey...
not to sure about this one..
but i will give you my best guess... hope it provides some useful information...
the amount or size of food given would be the main influence on the snakes growth...
but if the temp is hotter it will allow the snake to digest its food faster and more effectively which may possibly allow it to grow faster... and colder temperatures would have the opposite effect... but in many cases if the environment is too cold the snakes wont eat the food anyway...
hope this helps...

It has a huge influence on growth and health

Tropical snakes need tropical temperatures
Temperate snakes such as Diamond pythons need temperate temps

Very simple really
Without the correct temperatures they cannot digest food correctly

More Heat = Higher Metabolism
Higher Metabolism + More Food = More Growth.
Just dont exceed the temperature limits for your snake, you want an active snake not a fried one.

i was actualy thinking about this the other day. thanks for clearing it up, :)

So what kind of temps should i be going for the encloure is around 25 is what i was told by the guy to heat her to. Thanks for the help everyone.

25 degrees is too cool for an olive. Just provide a warm basking spot at one end of the cage so the snake can regulate it's temperature by itself. People put far too much emphasis on cages temps etc, I've never checked the temperature in an enclosure for years. Look at the animal, if it's always trying to get away from the heat source then it's too warm, or if it never moves from under it it's probably too cold. Even in a 6 ft long cage all you need is a 40 0r 60 watt spot globe up one end and you'll have a happy and healthy snake. That way it can bask when it want's to and not have a set temperature forced upon it 24/7

If you want to maximise growth; and I am not saying that you should; you should give your Olive access to 34c. Having said that it will spend the majority of its time away from the heat at say 25c and will probably favour the heat for a day or two after feeding. I would be surprised if an Olive would feed or survive in the long term if the maximum temperature availble was25c.
