I was reading about the sale of exotic animals and how over in the States (imagine that? lol) you can buy a Bengal Tiger for $70k.

This animal these guys have is a 226 kilo Siberian tiger! Bottle fed, hand raised, never caged or drugged. It's easy enough to say that an animal like this should never be in kept in captivity like this, but the article and photos are certainly an eye opener!

Imagine if it finally snapped and ate the dinner guests

ps: I forgot to post the link  Some good reading and photos :D

How cool would THAT be as a Wedding Day memory. :D

Bit sad I reckon :( There are so many animals that should be left to do what they are meant to do, for the same reason we don't handle snakes often at all, and never the spiders. Any aggressiveness or defensiveness is normal for wild animals in my opinion, and is a healthy sign, and if this tiger took a hunk out of someone, it would be considered dangerous and probably be shot for responding the way it's supposed to. There are many things that just shouldn't be domesticated, we have already done that enough over the years.

I have to say, even if i was able to, I could not own a tiger unless it was left alone in a massive natural enclosure to do what it's supposed to do. :(

At first i wanted to scorn the owners and rant on about how it would be cruel to have Qadesh as a pet. But i then held back till reading the story that goes with it and realised that the animal really does have a decent life anyway.

Thanks for that Moosenoose.

Samma.

i can almost understand a bengal... well, not really. but to have a siberian tiger... a critically endangered species as a pet is just wrong

i would love to have a tiger and keep it like that espically a white one

Where are all the cat haters? I thought they would be flocking to this post.

Hehehe...I found this other article written by the same guy who looked after this tiger regarding 'Tigers as pets'. At $A2500 a month upkeep you'd want to have some spare cash put aside lol

This following link is a very interesting read!:D He writes that he does not recommend these animals be kept as pets unless you treat it like one of the family and give it 110% attention and commitment 100% of its life.

Sorry everyone, I just found this extraordinary reading thats all ;)

Hi Craig,
I think all of the big cats cannot purr except for the cheetah wich is why some people think the cheetah is not a "big cat" rather the largest of the small cats. Then again I could be wrong :?

Lions can pur aswell. I could be wrong, but I thought I it was only tigers that couldn't. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, a nice supply of tigers would be cool for when my salties are adults ;). nahhhh, tigers are awesome. People only hate domestic cats because of all the wildlife they kill!! It aint a risk with tigers really, who is stupid enough to let their tiger out at night? :p

Maybe if I had one of those I wouldn't have had my snakes stolen a few months back.

The term 'big cats' is a loose one referring to members of the genus Panthera - the structure of the hyoid bone in the pharnx is what distinguishes them from the other felidae (from memory). Cheetah are, anatomically and physiologically, quite different from all other cats. Incidentally (from what I've heard), cheetahs make better pets than tigers.

:p

Yeah, i know exactly what you mean. It is really important that non-domesticated animals be treated as wild animals, and kept accordingly. <Henry turns around and feeds a thawed rat to his 8ft python that will live out it's life in a 4x2x2 sterilized melamine cage>

Did anyone hear of Jupiter Casino's wonderful breeding program?
They should be shot!
They 'accidently' bred 3 cubs and managed to have all of them die.
