Oxytocin injections :(

Took our gravid pilb to the vet the other day and got told if she didn't lay by this Monday she would need some calcium and oxytocin injections
I have corrected husbandry issues (substrate too dry) by putting in a nesting tub with deep moist sand...
She has constructed a burrow so hopefully tomorrow is the day.

If not what is the chance that after we give her the injection and dispells her eggs that they will still be viable?
She mated 6 weeks ago...
Let you guys know how it works out.

I have never heard of oxytocin injections working with a gecko. I would put her in a tub with only moist sand. When did she have her pre lay shed?

The longest my female Smooth Knob-tailed layed AFTER making a burrow was 3 days. Usually it's that night, or the following night, however it's not impossible for her to wait a few days.

What's the longest one of your geckos has been gravid?

It's hard to say because the female can retain sperm for up to a year (I've seen it happen). Between clutches is usually 30 days for my Smooth Knobbie

Why is the vet concerned? Has she been loosing condition? I have had a female milli that was egg bound. She was egg bound for a number of months before she was operated on. I wouldn't be rushing into intervention until you know she is defiantly egg bound. She may have just been hanging onto them until you provided moist sand. If she is still eating well i would be less worried. Are you 100% sure she is gravid?

I agree with Ursula, a lot of lizards won't lay until a suitable laying site is provided, offer her what she needs and you'll find she will most likely lay.
