But aren't PETA against the ownership of animals as well?
Therefore adoption is as hypocritical as the needless destruction of said animals (in PETA's view).
I do wonder how much of this is just media sensationalism - I'm rather anti-PETA, but it does make their facts look rather 'bad'.
But when we look at in perspective:
1 such articles suggests that 1.2 million dogs are killed by cars each year in the USA alone.

I might hate PETA as much as anyone here - but really... 4 million other dogs in the US are needlessly put to sleep....
While the average is only 50% per shelter - these same shelters mostly adopt a similar principle to PETA where they believe animals should be treated fairly.
I may be playing the devil's advocate, but in reality - PETA have done WAY worse than this!
