How can I best treat/nurse this? I feel absolutely gutted and absolutely awful. He's the sweetest thing. I'm shaking as I write this out of disappointment in myself, but the brief amount of research I've done in the last ten minutes say to keep it clean, watch out for infection, and scales will grow back in times / throughout sheds? Does this require a vet visit and stay, or potentially a mid-long re-homing with a snake expert?

You should always seek a vet for injuries like this. They can provide medication for these situations.

I would remove the substrate and line it with something clean like paper towel for the foreseeable future to minimise risk of infection.

Thank you. As I was reading going to bed last night I saw mention of removing the substrate and lining it with something that isn't particulate, so I did that as soon as I learned. Today a vet has been sought and he/she will be stitched up for quite an affordable $250

Thank you very much
