As an aside when in the UK I saw bearded dragons as big as Water dragons and magnificent colours, these things are huge.

German Giants, these things can lay up to 60 eggs, they're crossbred/inbred trash if you ask me. And speaking of big, there's an Eastern Water Dragon the size of an obese cat at Walkabout Creek Wildlife Centre for those interested.

I can't believe no one has commented on the fact that this bloke kept these animals in a unit!
I think there are a couple members on APS that live in Bondi......I wonder why they are being so quiet?

Whats wrong with keeping herps in a unit??? He might have a big jungle room for them. (or did have....lol)

We dont know how big his unit was. They do though actually have rooms in them I understand. My info is that he had had the snake for ten years, the animals were in excellent condition and it was the domestic dispute that led to his downfall. I too was wondering if it was an APS member or not.

The Australian government tends to favour the head in the samd approach to this problem, if we ignore it long enough it will go away.

I'm curious to know - what gives you this impression?

If you go back through the threads over the last year, you'll find a number of threads about reptiles seized at the airports and in mail, about the Exotic Amnesty that enables new legislation to be enforced, and about the Reverse Onus of Proof regarding exotics and smuggling.

Go to your library and find backissues of TRAFFIC - they have lists of prosecutions and court appearances for wildlife traffickers/smugglers.

:p

If you think that you obviously have never seen one in the flesh ? They are magnificent animals. We all like different things though.

Don't get me wrong, their are obviously cases of people being taken to court and fined etc but it is hardly a high priority, just the opposite in fact given the leniency of the "punishment" for this sort of heinous crime.
Given the amount of land clearing that is still sanctioned by this Government they are hardly likely to be putting much effort into stopping a few reptiles getting into the country and even less effort into finding the tens of 1000's that are here already.
