Whilst I agree it is a terrible way for ponies to die , I doubt that the driver premeditatedly decided to load ponies in the truck just to make them suffer and die. Over my 40 year of farming i have recieved animals dead on arrival ( including reptiles) due to inexperience and ignorance on the shippers and carrier's behalf. One reaction is to name and shame the shipper concerned,which seems to me of little benefit, or alternatively some sort of shipping code and education may prevent repeat accurences.
Regularly i see arguement on this site opposing packing regulations for shipping reptiles, because they are too expensive or too much trouble. Welfare costs ; The trick is to do what works rather than only paying lip service.

From the information in the article , I can only speculate that the deaths were accidental and the the driver decided to dump the bodies possibly to avoid the kind of trouble they are currently in or possibly because it was cheap.

The fines for animal cruelty are not high enough...I do hope that there is justice for every single one of those ponies and they don't just wrap the penatly inot one..because it becomes too high !!
