Hi all,
I need some input/help from boyd forest dragon keepers please. I am new to Boyds but have angle heads, so I thought there would not be too much difference except for heat!
I purchased 2 x 4 month old boyds 9 days ago and have not seen them eat yet and I am a tad concerned, as you always like to see your animals actually eat!
I am offering them roaches in a shallow bowl painted with fluon on the sides to stop escapees, as well as crickets starting off in the bowl but escaping and eventually roaming free throughout the enclosure.
I am not sure if they are finding crickets and eating them, I have never actually seen them and the roaches don't seem to be going either. I have since purchased a colony of earth worms and offered one of the guys a worm, which he did eat, after offering them more worms they did not seem interested.
For the record, I have heat to 28 deg underneath IR lamp, waterfall and even a mister ( i will post pics later) the enclosure is really good setup, should I doing anything else, or should I stop worrying?
I would imagine if they were hungry they would take the roaches from the bowl, as this was the setup the breeder had them accustomed too.
Any feedback would be very appreciated.
Cheers Scott.

Hello

Hello,

Sorry I don't know anything about those types of dragons. Do you have a UVB light & a bright white basking light for them?
Sometimes it takes them a bit to settle into a new home. Stress from being relocated will affect them, as well as their appetite. Make sure the feeders though, are not larger than the space between the eyes, as that can cause impactions.
You are not housing the boyd's with the angle heads, right? Just checking.:)

Hey, thanks for the input! No angles are in a different enclosure due to their no heating requirements. Boyds are kept under 5% UVB fluoro as well as heat lamp to 28 degrees, all other parameters are as per the text book. Boyds dony actually like "BRIGHT" white light as this is not what they are used to in the rain forest.
To update, I spoke with Toad, who I might say is a top bloke and very knowledgable when it comes to the Boydii and he advised to gently force feed and explained the method to do so.
I got both of my guys out last night and proceeded to feed them a couple of small roaches and 1 cricket each as per Toads method, which they readily accepted.
So I am rather pleased that they have had something to feed on now!
I am hoping that this may trigger a response to feed more regulary.
Has anyone had a similar experience with their Boyds and what was the outcome?
