My female pygmy bearded dragon passed away this morning :(.
She was 100% yesterday. She was digging around to lay her eggs. And then this morning she passed away. But still has some eggs in her :(

Im about to search her enclosure to see if she layed any.

But if i take her to a vets would they be able to tell me how and she died??

And is their anything i can do to get the eggs out :(

Vet should be able to get the eggs out too, but depends how developed they are, whether or not they are going to live anyway. Might be lucky is she was digging to lay them soon.

Eggs will most likely be already dead. How long has she been visably gravid / or digging for? It is likely she died from either being egg bound or possibly from lack of calcium / nutrition that the eggs drew out of her. It is important that males are kept seperate from females to reduce stress at least whilst they are gravid. A good deep lay site shouls also be offered to prevent egg binding as some dragons will hold on to the eggs untill they find a suitable lay site, once they start digging they are ready to drop their eggs and every day after is vital. Sorry for your loss.

I noticed she was gravid about 2 weeks ago. And she only started digging yesterday. I put tub of wet sand in her enclosure to so she could lay.
She didnt lay any at all. She has about 4 eggs that i can feel in her..

Im off to the vet.

poor thing! sorry for your loss mate. Keep us updated with what the vet said!

Back from the vets. They didnt tell me y she died. But she had 19 fertile eggs.
But they couldnt tell me if they will hatch or not.

They said from here just have to play the waiting game.

They want to be posted on what happens for futer refference.

Thank you for all your post.

Cheers
Kyle

Hey mate, chances are they will come good. I have taken eggs out of a roadkill female Eastern and incubated them full period had 90% hatch rate.

Really. Do u know when she died??

My female passed some time between 7pm friday and 5am saturday.

I hope they all hatch.

Cheers
Kyle

Sorry to hear about this Kyle! I hope your luck turns around, and you have success with the eggs.

That is so cool! I didn't realise that that would be possible. I wonder if it makes a difference if the female died from eggbinding (presumably?) or was killed.

Do you think i have a good chance with that time window??

And i think she did become egg bound. She was digging to lay the day before she died

So sorry to hear about your pygmy, I've got my fingers crossed for the eggs, but I think most will hatch just fine

Just a quick update. I have 2 eggs that still look healthy. Rest have turned black. Is their any chance they could still hatch if fertile??
