Sorry, I posted this in the wrong section earlier and can't figure out how to move it!!!
Hi all,
We have 2 pygmy beardies, hatched November last year, and due to the fact that it's freezing in our house (Goulburn in May... Brrr) they have started slowing down. They look very healthy and aren't losing weight, they're just sleeping all the time up the cold end.
They're in separate tanks, one 3ft one 4ft (we had to separate them earlier this year due to a bit of nibbling at each other. They have a UVB 10 tube, and a separate basking globe in the day, and a purple heat globe at night. Their hot end is around 42, and now my problem is: how will I keep their cool end warm enough during winter?
I know it's meant to stay around 20, but our house temps can drop into the negatives in winter so what should I put up the cool end? Maybe a heat mat or another purple globe (low wattage)?

I'm really worried that they will literally freeze!!!!!
thanks for your help
Ash

Hi mate,
At night I would use either a heat mat connected to a thermostat, Or just use a ceramic heat emitter on a thermostat. My pygmy has been sleeping in the cool end for probably 2 months. She has all the right temps and a brand new uvb10 tube but she just chooses to doze away the days. Don't stress too much about it but def don't let the temps get too cold especially in your location. Try not to use a blue/black/red bulb at night. Another option is just to have a small oil heater in the room and leave it on over night. :)

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I'm also worried about the cold end temps during the day as we aren't home in the day, and the house can definitely get chilly. Winter hasn't started yet and this morning one tanks cold end was 19 and the other was 17, they don't get much better than that as the day wears on. Should I use a heat mat in the day as well?

yeah perhaps set a heat mat on the cold side to a temp of 20celcius. Be sure to connect it to a thermostat. Best of luck :)
