Hi.
My 6ft coastal carpet python has become really aggressive over the last few months. He has bitten me, and strikes when i try to change his water etc. I heed his warning hiss, and dont ever force myself on him, he has never been mistreated since i have had him, about two years. I used to be able to hold him easily, put him over my shoulders, let him lick my face etc, but now he sometimes even strikes when i walk past his terrarium. he is well fed. I do not know his age, and I call him "he" but i dont know his sex either, i suppose that makes it hard to help. but any ideas on why "he" is like this would be great, thanks :)

I can't help, unfortunately, but I'll give you a bump just in case someone else can!

What it could possibly be is that your snake may be sick or have a injury. They are hard to spot some times. Does anything on the snake look abnormal or different from what it used to. What you can do is just check for any issues (mites, lumps, mouth staying ajar). See if there is any problems. If you have a friend who is experienced with herps get them to have a look, get a vet to give it check. Hope that helps. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with it.

Not all the knowledgeable but to hazzard a guess One idea would be to say its coming up to breeding season & your snakes wild instincts could be coming to the fore.

Has anything changed over the last few weeks, like moving the enclosure to another location, temps changed, or is there extra traffic in the area you are keeping him in? Are you feeding the correct food size for the weight of the snake? Could be a any number of things.
Maybe someone with nore experience maybe able to help out more.

It occurred to me this morning that your snake might have become cage protective. For whatever reason the snake gets aggressive when anyone approaches.

I'm too new at this to be able to suggest what you can do, other than to say get yourself a snake hook and use it to gently lift him out. Sometimes, once they are out of the cage, they calm down. Sometimes they don't, so keep alert.

Maybe someone else can add to this?

are you sure the food size is correct......they should have a nice big 'bump' after feeding and go off to sleep for a few days to digest their food....if he is not settling maybe he is still hungry...somtimes they can surprise you....Alvin took a 110gram rat for me the other day and I thought it would be enough for him...till the next day i copped a big bite and he coiled me and the darling thing had a second one...and then settled down had a sleep and was back to his old self......

Just a thought
