Will a python who is undersized at the age of 5 ever grow to its full potential that it would have grown to if it had been a better feeder?

Cheers, Shelly

My male children's python was a little skinny and a tiny bit shorter when I got him, but since having him he's definitely gotten bigger. He is around 6 years old give or take. I think it's possible, yes.

I'd think so, being a reptile will mean the growth rate will depend on the feed rate so if it's now feeding better it'll grow.

Reptiles slow their growth after a certain age.
Most snakes have passed that stage at 5 years old.

You could feed him lots, but I reckon he'd just get fat.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I am selling my brothers coastal for him and I just wanted to know so I could let the buyer know if they asked. He is tiny, but if I were to buy an undersized python that was 5 years old I would continue to only feed it normally.

Can I ask how big it is? Just for interest, I have a coastal too.

Aw poor bubby. Cute though!
Thanks for that

What is it with some people? Scabby with food and scabby with heat. I bet when it comes to themselves they aren't.

My brother actually bought him as a 2yo and he was extremely undersized and a very fussy eater. He has grown lots in my brothers care as my brother just persisted with the food.

I hear where you coming from Fay and sometimes it is the animal but more often it is the breeder/seller of these animals.
2 years ago I bought a 1year old diamond python from a highly reputable breeder, very well know over here. Anyway, the animal was no bigger than a hatchling and when I received the feeding record this poor animal had received only 3 small meals in the previous year. Just the seller trying not to spend too much of his profits on the animals they are trying to sell. Thankfully there are not too many breeders out there like this one.

Yes, at times it is the animal just being a fussy feeder, but at times it is just people being mean.Good on your brother Shell for being persistant and caring.
