Yesterday i was having a discussion with another member of APS about quails. Here is some info and if you have any questions as to why you are better off feeding your herps quails rather than rats or rabbits call this guy.

1. THEY ARE CHEAPER TO BUY. ADULT QUAIL = $4. ADULT RATS THE SAME SIZE = $7.
2. A FULL GROWN CARPET PYTHON WILL TAKE 1 PER WEEK WHICH WILL KEEP IT HAPPY
FOR A FULL WEEK, RATHER THAN 2 RATS.
3. THE FEATHERS IN THE QUAIL SEEM TO BRING OUT A BETTER COLOUR IN MY
PYTHONS.
4. SINCE I HAVE BEEN USING QUAIL, MY PYTHONS ARE BREEDING BETTER WITH BIGGER
CLUTCHES.
5. MY HATCHLINGS HAVE BEEN BIGGER WHEN BORN WITH MAGIC MARKINGS.
6. THESE QUAILS ARE BRED FOR RESTURANTS WHICH MEENS THEY HAVE TO BE IN
PERFECT CONDITION FOR HUMANS TO EAT.
7. THERE IS NEVER A SHORT SUPPLY AS 10,000 QUAIL ARE HATCHED EVERY DAY.
8. PRICES ARE = $2.00 FOR A 1 WEEK OLD, SAME SIZE AS A SMALL RAT.
= $2.50 FOR A 2 WEEK OLD, SAME SIZE AS A MEDIUM
RAT.
= $3.00 FOR A 3 WEEK OLD, SAME SIZE AS A LARGE
RAT.
= $4.00 FOR A ADULT, SAME SIZE AS A X LARGE RAT.
= $5.00 FOR A BOILER, SAME SIZE AS A XXX LARGE
RAT.

Try your local Butcher for frozen quails

RE: Re: RE: Quails

Give Steve a call and he will give you the guy who breeds the quials phone number. I am waiting for steve to send me his nimber so you can ring directly. Call Sevet as he is a very friendly guy who is more than willing to answer any question you might ask him.

RE: Re: RE: Quails

What breed of quail does that list refer too?

RE: Re: RE: Quails

by the size indicated i think you are talking about japanise quail. they are bred for the resturant market for many years and are up to 4 times larger than king quail.

Now I've heard everything,Same size as rats yet it only takes one quail as opposed to two rats to satisfy a snake.Feathers make pythons colours better, pythons breed better and clutches have magic markings.

I never realised until today that quails where so sort after.
I am now as of late next week going to stock frozen-

Has anyone else fed quail on a regular basis? How do the snakes go on them?
I offered my guys day old defrosted chicks once and they just looked at them, with as much to say............"what is this you expect us to eat?" I ended up throwing them all out, so I would be reluctant to change, maybe I have fussy snakes.

We use day old quails for hard to feed hatchies and larger ones to provide a variety in the diet of all our snakes. We alternate between rats, mice, quail and rabbit. all are thawed together so i imagine there is some sort of cross scenting going on.All our snakes eat all different foods. So often we get told "this snake only eats mice". It doesn't seem true. I believe different foods may provide different food values particularly trace elements. As for any coor change, well I havn't noticed that. There may well be a plocebo effect on the owner.

i heard feeding bird's isnt good for snake's on a long term basis as they can contract many disease's from the bord eg: salmanella (i think thats how u spell it) and worms and stuff JMO im most probably wrong

oh ok i might give my jungle one and see what he think's of them he'll eat anything normally

feeding chicken's isn't too good as they have very little muscle where as quails are pure muscle.

Quails have a similar amount of muscle as chickens - they are definitely not "pure muscle". If they were pure muscle they wouldn't be a ground bird and they wouldn't be delicious eating.

Peter Birch was starting a food supply company and was breeding quail, he said that any fussy snake would always take quail without hesitation. Haven't heard anything more so don't know if they are still operating or not.

If these are from the same place, then you'd have no problems as the quails were bred, frozen and vacuumpacked onsite. And anyway, rats and mice can give your snake salmonella too.

:p

oh ok i thought salmonella was a bird transfered disease but as i said i was most probably wrong lol Thanks hix
