I have learnt that quarantine is necessary when expanding your collection, I was novice with this particular subject and when expanded my collection, did not quarantine.

I have keept my new python for 4 months and there has been no sign of infection to any of my collection. The new python has been in close quarters (click clack inside other enclosures) etc.

Should I be worried?

You're pretty well over the danger period now mate. There is still the possibility of something happening in the next couple of months but by now you should be right. A vet once told me that ideally you should keep them separated for 8 months.

i usually only keep an animal seperated for 6 months, it would be ideal to go longer but i simply have not got the room to quarantine anymore (quarantine room is now convertd to a nursery).

I always wonder about the time frame we should have new additions seperated, opmv for example has no timeframe in which it may show any symptoms, could be 18 months down the track for all we know. To an extent i think it is sometimes just bad luck if you bring some nasty's into your collection.

My main aim is to ensure their is no RI, mites or anything else fairly obvious, after 6 months if they seem to be in good health and had no issues to date they move in with the rest of the collection.

I guess it helps by purchasing off reputable breeders that are known to have clean collections. Well next time i'll know to quarantine for 6 months minimum.

6 months would be an absolute minimum - some would recommend 12 months minimum. I don't think there are any definitive time limits put on snakes with regard to the viral infections OPMV or IBD, it seems to be the luck of the draw. As has been stated, buying from a reputable breeder may give you some insulation from risk, especially if you buy hatchies which have had limited exposure to other snakes.

i know of a highly recommended supplier of reptiles that only allows around 30 days for both wild caught and captive bred quarantine periods

his company one which we all know states quarantine period is 28 days.

yes he has a license to collect from the wild

IMO the longer the better,as previuosly mentioned buying afrom a reputable breeder you will have more chances it coming from a clean-disease free enviroment,(not saying that the every day person doesnt have these conditions)But it should eliminate the chances...IMO anywhere from 6+months plus will be a advantage, also with OPMV-IBT cases have been known to last over the 12month period..

I have only bought from reputable breeders so 6 months is the period I'll keep separated. I would never buy from unknown sources like pet shops or from the classified.
