Good teaser.... didn't work for me either. Got all excited n stuff too.

As mentioned above, I give you 4-5 weeks before you splash out for a pump w/ inbuilt filter. That way you can get away with water changes every 3-4 weeks.

Besides, you could always put in some feeder fish. They breed rapidly, and can give your dragons a bit of fishing fun. I caught one of my EWD's last night sitting on a ledge above the water dangling its tail in, then making a lunge for the fish swarming around its tail. Quite entertaining.
 
There is going to be no fish and there is no filter so cycling the tank is a waste of time. There is also no need for worrying about good bacteria. The miniscule amount that will grow on the walls of the pond will not help what so ever with filtration so better to change the water frequently (weekly). I for one would have spent another $30 and bought one with a filter because doing big water changes ever week is going to get old very fast.
Yeah but there is the matter of breaking down the wates from the dragon
