To me the hyacinth isthe Ultimate parrot just like people who hold the same regard for gtp's.I'd love em but have enough on my plate atm.How about a few pics if you're asking 40k?

They are the biggest of the parrots, man, wouldnt want to mess with that beak

Just like reptiles we all have different tastes as to what we think is beautiful.I for one don't like greens,or the Aussie greens i should say where for others it's their ultimate reptile to own.

Whatever floats ya boat

See i would prefger any macaw let alone a hyacinth rather than a tucan.Just personal taste, now here's a pretty nice bird for ya!

bet that cost ya more than 40k

I think Macaws are GORGEOUS, and they can get away with 40k when you consider how much you make when they breed. I WISH!
:)

$40,000? That's bloody cheap.

When I was in the States 15 years ago they were going for USD$11,000 each. And those photos don't come anywhere near doing justice to the beauty of the birds. Absolutely spectacular.

But the Holy Grail of macaws is the Spix Macaw. Extinct in the wild, and only a handful in captivity, most in private hands. In 1990 the total world population was only 18 birds.

Instar:

That first photo is of a Sulphur-breasted Toucan, beautiful birds and I've seen them in the wild! Will have to dig out the shots sometime.

LOL no need to dream instar  I've never heard of the spix macaw before.I'll have to do some googling.Hix is right the hyacinths are absolutely spectacular and just like snakes sometimes photos just doesn't do them justice. Are the spix as big as the hyacinths Hix?

I thought the price was cheap too especially a breeding pair.Whoever's selling them must desperately need the money as it'd be like selling a breeding pair of greens for$20,000.There has to be a good reason for someone to want or have to sell a perfectly healthy pair of breeding macaws that would pay for themselves in no time if you bred them....could this also be a pak obs???

Spix is one of the smaller macaws, from what I gather they're about the size of an Alexandrine Parrot.

And those Hyacinth's might not be breeding - maybe not compatable, might be laying infertile eggs, might be getting old ..... always things to look out for when buying expensive birds, especially cheap ones. (Not saying that's the case, just that there might be a reason why they're so cheap).

jesus what is the cheapest macaw?? i like scarlet breasted's

In Australia? At the moment I think the Blue-and-golds are probably cheapest. I've seen some hand-reared chicks going for $7,500. You won't get cheaper than that for a large macaw. I believe there are some Yellow-napes and Severes in Australia, but haven't seen any offered for sale yet.

Thanks Hix.I bred ringnecks and alexandrines for a while and still have a 12 year old alexandrine keeping an old lady company down the road.He had quite a large and vivid vocabulary too and i guess you could imagine the things he used to say.Have to dig up a pic of him my ol mate Jack :D

$40k for a pair, sound like the same bloke with GTP for $700 each.
$40k each thats the going rate at the moment for young birds( so I was told by some one who has some).
Hix you are correct with a price for a Blue and Gold
Scarlets going for $9 -$10 k each but Hans at $3k each
