at what age/size do people sex their hatchies? and is it accurate at that size? i have a 7 week old coastal hatchie that i bought unsexed and a breeder i know has told me to take it to him when its older/more settled at home to have it sexed, but i forgot to ask him if age/size comes into it as well as this is my first hatchie, and i would prefer to wait untill it can be done preoperly instead of disrupting my hatchie more than i have to
.

Dont sex it yourself, unless your experienced at it you'll just end up hurting it and/or wrecking its reproductive parts, best to take it to a experienced reptile vet or waiting till it is older (2-3yrs) before sexing it yourself as its easier when they're older

please read my post, i am not going to attemp it myself, wouldnt try it myself as i have never been shown how....i was wondering at what age or size i should take it to my breeder friend (25+ years exp) to get him to do it for me, an was wondering if other people had a prefered age/size that they do it due to the difference being more obvious (if it is) in their experience

Hi
The best age to sex hatchies is when they hatch by 'popping'...as long as the person is experienced....as they dont have much muscle control so its easy to do.

Probing is ok when they are approx 3mths upwards....a yearling size is easiest but any size if the person knows what they are doing...the smaller they are the easier they are to hold as well..

As adults, probing or tail shape is good.

Thanks Ozzie an Kelly, i bought it unsexed as i could get it cheaper, and i know someone that will sex it for me, just thought i would find out when its easiest so i dont have to stress it out moving it around to much. It doesnt bother me if its a female just gives me an excuse to get another snake (Want a male so i can breed in a few years once they are big enough and i alrady have a female) ;);)

I bred some Coastal's last year 2008/09

I sold some as unsexed when they were around six weeks old.... But come 10-12 weeks old, the ones I had left, I was able to get sexed by a reputable breeder who knew what he was doing...
