I really wouldn't want to see any species be extinct but in case you haven't already guessed it I am **** scared of large sharks and yet love scuba diving hence the conflict. If they were extremely rare I would enjoy myself in the water a whole lot more. I as a kid had my goal set at being a commercial diver but then along came an idiot and made a movie called jaws and that was the end of that. Even if I managed to hide from a big shark he would still find me by following the trail of excrement I left behind.

Not so much fun when you are diving with a group of newbies and one idiot decides to stir up a Port Jackson and the Port Jackson takes a munch on the instructors arm as she tries to stop this happening. Amazing power in those jaws, causes quite a nasty crush injury

Very true. Although it is funny when an idiot grabs the tail of a wobbegong to harass it thinking it cant swing round and bite him and it does. I have seen this twice now. Serves them right.

To the best of my knowlege no-one has attempted to use AI on snakes. When speaking to Dr Steve Johnston (one of australia's leading wildlife AI specialists) he indicated that it would be a good area to go into as there had not been much, if any, work done in the area.

Mind you I would not like to be the person that had to collect semen from a scrub python using electroelaculation.

Yet you will travel in a car, fly in a plane, cross a road, trust a doctor, drink dam water, thumb your nose at terrorists, sleep in a house in a busy suburb, walk the streets at night, camp in the bush and walk through the same bush in search of snakes.....

I love irrational fear. :D

Yep some people don't haqve a clue,a port jackson or wobbegong can give a mighty good crunch moreso the wobbegong and especially if grabbed by the tail.

That sort of thing really spins me out as sharks are just as predictable as snakes and you deal with vens on a daily basis but are shyte scared of a port jackson or wobbegong sharks .Even refies and bronze whalers are so well fed up here they never bother a person unless they're being stupid and asking for trouble.I saw Jaws and still did under water salvage and construction for a few years and grown up around the water all my life as you in Innisfail home to all sorts of sharks but i bet you know 100 times more people up Nth Qld that have been nailed by a ven than bitten by any shark even a 10 foot tiger to a wobbegong...It's similar to keeping all sorts of snakes and being shyte scared of spiders and as said irrational phobias but we are all different which is what makes the world go round!!!

PMSL Wrasse.

I hear you PilbaraPythons. Somthing about how they are big and how they come looking for you...

Sharks are the only things that scare me... yet I'd give anything to go swiming with them... especially a six meter white shark! (in a cage of course)

Has to be one of the most impresive animals (after herps of course)...

anyone see http://www.apexpredators.com/. Amazing to think that they can propell themselves out of the water...

Don't want to see any animal extinct though...

Not all sharks scare me. Only tigers, Whites, bull sharks, bronze whalers and very large hammer heads. I also would love one day to hop in a cage and have a closer look at a large shark as I reckon it would be an absolutely awesome experience. As for logic, well any thing that can take a huge piece out of my body while I am still alive scares the crap out of me. But what I can't explain however, is why I do not like the large black household cockroach. I know its small and harmless and yet they still freak me out.
Rob McClouds secret fear is spiders by the way. Some day I am going to send him a jack in a box but inside there will really be a few large bird eaters that get flung out when he opens it. After all what are good friends for.

There's a few others like blues and makos northern and southern but i don't think i have heard of an attack from any huge hammerheads in Nth Qld that i'm aware of,there's only a couple of species of hammerhead that are dangerous.I've been with a friend and seen him chased out of the water by bronzeys while he had a fish or two on his spear which is the risk you take spearfishing but diving and snorkelling with them to me has been a pleasure every time i've done it...

I would however be hesitant to jump in the water where great whites are as they're inquisitive and will bite and release just to see what you are but they are also quite predictable and would love to see a 20 footer from a cage..

Spiders don't thrill me but i can handle them and found a few beauties the other day which i'll take up to swap Rob for som WA womas,he's been after these birdeaters in particular for a while   However what you deal with regularly catching vand handling vens now that can be scary stuff and i wouldn't do it but i have a good reason and logic for that as do many others i think but as with anything if you understand the animal you know what it will and can do...
