I have a bredli and I am a bit confused about shedding and feeding times..
I have had one experience when she didn't take her food and turns out she shed not long after, but I am curious to know whether it's best/common not to feed them when they are due to shed?
She's looking pretty dull and crawled into her basket a week ago and hasn't come out and that's usually what she does prior to shedding but she's also over-due for a feed so not sure whether I should give it a go or save the food in case she doesn't take..

Anyway, any advice is much appreciated as always :)

she just keeps poking her head out like she's looking for food? hehe

My stimson will take food no matter what part of shed cycle he is in, but some people will say not to offer food through this period (i dont offer unless he comes out), the breeder told to offer food if i wanted and the worse case is if they dont take it you waste a rodent. As mine is still young and growing with every up grade of food his sheds have been anywhere from 3 - 5 weeks. I think everyone will have there own peference with each snake as they are all different too.

Worst case scenario if you offer whilst shedding is you waste some food.
I am not aware of any detrimental effects which could occur to the animal.

Some will take and other will not.
One of my stimsons will not take at all during shedding however another will eat no matter what.

Last week I offered one of my hatchies a feed which it took. I always come back and check it has been consumed about half an hour later.
On this occasion when I checked 30 mins later it was half way through a shed so in the space of 30 mins it ate and shed.

Perhaps the feed stretched the skin as it went down and as it was ready to shed it started the process.

yeah i thought it might be a bit of an individual thing.. meh she looks hungry, i'll give it a go. as you said worst case scenario i waste a rat.. need to buy some more anyway.
what snake is that in your avatar? it's stunning!

It's a Black and White Jungle.
The photo is not of one of mine but another members on here.
I'm not so good with a camera and I can't get mine to sit still long enough either:)

I offer all mine food when they are in their shed cycle, as others have said all your doing is possibly wasting a food item :) Mine are all piglets and feed no matter what lol

As the snake has trouble defecating during this time I don't offer mine food if I know he is already in shed mode as it takes him a good week to get through it. I feed him as soon as he is active on the day I find his shed as I figure shedding uses energy and he will probably be 'peckish' at that stage. This shed it meant he went two weeks between feeds as he started to get snitty and was hiding the day I was going to feed him... but then again I vary the number of days between feeds.

As far as over due for a feed, remember that the feed schedules we give our snakes are artificial at best. Depending on the age of your snake it can go between 2 and 6 months without feeding and still remain healthy so unless you haven't fed him in the last month that would be my last concern.

yeah she definitely wasn't "overdue" by most scales.. just her usual routine.. in the end she hasn't shed and now doesn't look like she's going to anymore... went over 3 weeks without defacating and then this morning went everywhere and she's active and perky as..
no idea!..
time for food the next size up maybe..

There you go the poor thing had a belly ache...
