hi all, recently i got a 3 1/2 ft coastal carpet python. lately her eyes have gone a tad clooudy and her white markings have changed to a dark cream-light brown colour. i know the first sign of shedding is the cloudy eyes but i just wanted to make sure. also, the guy i got her from gave me a water dish for her, but to me it seems way to small for her to fully get into. should i replace it with a larger dish eg. litter tray, etc.?
cheers, ben

If you have room in her enclosure for a larger water bowl then I am sure she will appreciate it. They don't mind curling up water to soak when they are coming up for a shed. If you make the bowl large enough that she can coil around in, and fairly deep so that you can half fill it. She'll still get plenty of water to soak without spilling it all over her floor.

sounds like it's coming into slough (my male Bredli is doing exactly the same thing at the moment). Yeah it should have a water bowl big enough to submerge without spilling water, & stable enough that it isn't readily tipped over etc. Make sure she's got some branches or whatever to rub against to help her get the old skin off.

Yep that is shedding. Their eyes will go cloudy and you will notice their colours will become quite dull and the rainbow sheen they usually have is replaced by a milky look. After they go through the whole cloudy eyes milky look they will go back to looking normal and then usually shed a couple of days later.

As for water dish, you can upgrade the size but you will also have to watch that it doesn't raise the humidity in the enclosure too much.

the dish is one of those fake rock ones, and is quite shallow (its that small my 5 month of childreni would struggle with it. i purchased one of those litter trays as i thought the dish was too small, but wasnt sure whether to put it in or not. its the first time she will have shed since i got her so im a bit excited.
thanks for the help guys. cheers, ben

I give mine a warm bath about a day or so before they shed
