Hey guys, have had my coastal for a few years now and has always been a good shedder no problems so far just abit concerned right now as he has just started his shed which at this point is over the top half of his head but seems to be having trouble getting the lower half started this time been watching him scrub his lower jaw for about 45 mins now and the skin hasn't even started to peel back just wondering how long i should give him before I intervene? just concerned as i have never notice him take this long to get the bottom half started.

Cheers guys

Cameron

See how he looks in the morning and then when you get time tomorrow let him soak in a warm bath of camomile tea and you can use the tea bag as a type of sponge to help get it off, but basically after 15 mins of soaking, use a cloth that you wet in the tea bath and squeezed out to let him slither through while you hold him. The skin should slide straight off.

Yummy! Snake tea!
I find pillow case method is the easiest way to get the shed off. wet a towel in warm water. It should be wet enough for you to be able to wring water out but not wet enough to leave a puddle on a surface. Place this towel in a pillow case or a tub with your snake and on a heating source such as a heatpad. Leave him overnight and the shed should be off by morning. Use this method with all my snakes with stuck shed and I have no problems what so ever! The towel's rough fibre helps 'grab' the snakes skin and water helps create humidity and sofftens the skin helping it come off easier :)

just noticed it has started to lift back, just gave him and his enclosure a heavey misting with luke warm water if that dosnt help will try the tea bath tomorrow, black no sugar i presume? ;-)

The camomile acts to sooth and to soften the skin it has a lot of excellent qualities and I know a snake keeper who has been using this method for over 20 years with great results. I watched it used on a 2 1/2m coastal that was notoriously bad at shedding.

And the best part is you can drink the tea once the snake is finish with it ;)

I use Sorbolene cream. Can buy from any chemist.
Chose this method after some research and speaking to a very reputable vet in Melb.
