Okay so i have been looking at shinglebacks and i am kind of intrested in them and might go and get myself one.
But i have a few questions first,
1. How can you keep the humidity down (i live in vic so it doesnt get very humid anyways)
2.Can you house two together, a male and a female, because i was watching on life in cold blood that shinglebacks develope life partners and can stay with the same partner for all of there life?
3.Any breeders on this site

Thanks :D

oo and one more question.. what temps should they be kept at

things that can help keep humidity down, from what i have heard, only offer them water, dont keep a bowl in there, and take out poop staright away. correct me if im wrong anyone

i use breeders choice, ozpet kitty litter etc. to draw moisture out of the air. i dont leave moist foods or water dishes in the viv. have heat cord on a thermostat, and lights to dry out the air. their poop is remarkably wet (due to only eating very moist foods) so get that out asap! a wooden enclosure helps ALOT.

i have a trio together, they get along well. its up the individual. the 'pair for life' although sweet. is myth. if a stronger healthier male comes along, she will go off with him. although a strong healthy pair has been breeding in the wild for over 35 years now? right? meeting up every spring/summer. apparently the males 'need' to fight to get ready for breeding. then again, im sure they will anyway if cooled properly.

look on RDU. theres a guy selling them in SA.

i paid $125 ea. for mine. which is cheap compaired to a $350-450ea pet store tag, but expensive compaired to a $40 local price in some areas.. hehe.

search for www.bluetongueskinks.net there is a good caresheet and forum there.

i breed shinglebacks and they are awesone. i keep usualy a pair in a cage. they like it really hot like 40 degrees but only for a short period of time and they need to be able to escape the heat.

Hi we have shinglebacks and they live happily together year round - if you have a look at petlink Matt in SA has 2 proven breeding pairs for sale, we have bought some of his animals and they were in great condition. While they will take another partner if their chosen one isn't available, if you want to breed and can buy a proven pair that would be a better choice.
We keep our shinglebacks on Breeders Choice which helps keep down humidity. They get most of the fluid they need from their food so you only need to offer them water twice a week and only leave it in there for a couple of hours - they are sleepy things and little pigs so I find the best way to ensure everyone gets equal access to food and water is to arrange them around the bowl at feeding time.
They are fantastic lizards, very friendly and placid but can be hard to find depending on where you live.

Yep, Breeder's choice seems to help keep the humidity down, although it can create a bit of dust in my experience (still find it is the best option though).

Might be an obvious statement, but only get a pair if you want them to breed. My pair have bred two years in a row and I didn't do anything special like cooling etc., they just breed regardless of what I do.

where can i find this matt guy?
i looked on petlink and couldnt find him.
and how do you look at animals for sale on reptiles down under i cant find it =|
One more little question how big an enclosure would i need for two of them?
Thanks

Mine are in a 4ft by 2ft glass tank (some people will tell you a glass tank with no lid is better to keep the humidity down, others say a melamine enclosure with a couple of vents will do just as well). You could probably keep two in a 3ft enclosure with no worries. If you're after some I am about to sell 4 (2 young from last year, 2 from this year), but I am in the NE of Melbourne, so it might be too far away from you. Feel free to drop me a private message if you are interested though.
