This link is the press release.

As an indidiual that has just bought into a small population Shire (1100 in town) I can see economic benefits in the terms of more funds to spend on Community works and Services....However; since 8% of the towns population work for the council, if they are all sacked (as they have all been told their jobs are on the line) imagine the economic downturn for the community with such a large employer going down. It could be a major blow economically for such a small town.

Have any small shires in other states that have previously malgamated got some good news stories to allay my FEARS!

We've already had Council areas amalgamating in Country areas here in SA. No big deal really, as long as the services they provide don't go down the drain eh??
