My mates brother has this pet snake, I'm not 100% sure what breed of snake it is, but near the end of it's tail it has what looks like a black lump or it's been bitten and has been infected, pictures below.

I'm planning on just taking it off him, with permission cleaning the tank, feeding him, and taking him to a reptile vet to get a check up/treatment.

But first I wanted to see if anyone knew what it is?

The picture is pretty poor but if it is the small black mark in the centre of the photo where the colour changes then check closely for legs as it could be a tick (ie cattle tick). Needs to be removed if that is the case & put him back in the wild as that is probably where he came from.

I'm not sure where the snake is from, it's an excellent snake to handle very placid, will chill with someone when's there's 5+ people around, he has also had it for over 3 years.

can hardly see anything with that pic mate, even if it was taken from the wild its to late to be let go now it has to stay in captivity

If it is such an easy, laid back snake to handle, why the appalling photo? Set it up so the whole snake is visible, particularly the head. Then take a close shot of tail with the ‘lump’ of concern visible. An in-focus close up of the head would certainly help. What about information on the locality in which it was found and exactly what it is was doing at the time?

If you are serious about an ID, then get serious about providing the necessary information. At the moment it could be anything from a Darwin Carpet to an American Milk Snake.
