Hi guys and girls,

My male MD has regurgitated a rat 24 hours after he ate it.
Is this something that happens alot or does it mean I have a problem??

He seems fine. He shed about 2 weeks ago now. He has been feeding without a problem.
It was a frozen rat that was bought and kept frozen, and the same batch he and my girl have been eating for a few weeks so i dont think it was the food.

Should I just leave him alone until he is due for his next feed or should i offer him another rat and see if it happens again?

Thanks for your help and advice,
tamstar.

I'd say that either the temps were too low for him, or the rat was too large. These are the most common reasons for regurgitation, but there are others.

Thanks heaps for that Serpenttongue.
I dont think it his temps are to low as we are in the terrirtory and temps here are pretty hot all the time. I will try him on the size down with his rats and see if that helps.
thanks again,

As Serpanttongue said , temp too low , rat too big , or being stressed or handled will also cause it to regurgitate

sometimes if u havnt warmed the rat up enough and its cold in the middle the snake will often regurgitate it. i have had it happen a couple of times over the years, but generally with fussy eaters. bump the heat up for the snake for a few days and make sure u leave it alone to get setttled again, then try feeding again. but if its only done it the once i wouldnt be too concerned.
all the best. cheers
mel

Don't feed it for at least a week. Sometimes regurgitating can cause an imbalance in the snake's stomach, causing future problems. Someone had a problem a while ago on this forum where this seemed to be the case.
