$50 thats all wow i think should of been fined more much more..............

For taking a snake accross a border which he wasn't planning to sell and was allowed to keep? A bit harsh I reckon, especially since the snakes were confiscated! Imagine you took your diamonds with you when you went on a short trip, with the intention of bringing them home, only to have them confiscated and to add insult to injury the fine you. He wasn't exactly hurting anyone.

Trader, aka Judy, was born in Manitoba, not far from Brandon and worked at the University of Manitoba for a few years.

There are not many indigineous reptiles in that area... actually I think there is only the garter snakes which do the mass mating thing. A temperature of -40 during the winter, and sub zero temperatures for most of the year are too much for most species of herp. There are some frogs that have adapted well.

Anyway I am surprised they kicked up too much fuss. I am surprised they needed paper work at all. Ball pythons are copmmonly kept as pets in North America.

I guess the key word here is "Protected" :

The snakes, which are protected by an international treaty regulating the trade and transport of endangered animals, were confiscated and sent to the University of Manitoba's Zoology department, where they remain. Conner was taken into custody.
