My jungle python firstly has been fed twice in the 5 weeks Ive had her, she still hasnt pooped yet! She is a yearling. Is this bad? I have tried warm soaks but she wont stay in the water so I gave up!

Also, after her second feed I waited 4 days to hold her and the last few nights she will refuse to come out of her tank. I will put my hand in, (in front of her face and rub her back and lift her) but she will get aggitated and try her best to hide.
I dont really want to resort to a snake hook as if she is already angry I dont want to make this worse. I dont care if she bites, but I dont want to encourage her to be aggressive so when she gets aggitated I leave her. But this means I cant hold her and its been 6 days now after her feed! Usually I will take the lid of the tank off and wait for her to escape herself and then I can easily pick her up, but she is not doing this anymore! She will sit in an "S' position and try to hide if you put your hand in her cage.

Does anyone have similar problems? I need help!

So why don't you just leave the snake alone? What are you feeding her?

I have heard that pulling her out of the cage every 1-2 days gets her used to you, and she will get calmer. so ive been trying to do that. I am only new to her.
Pinkie rats, she is a small yearling.

How big is she? A yearling should easily nail a fuzzy rat. Her food mighten being enough so she absorbing it all. Also try feeding more regularly as pinkies don't have much protein or nutrients.

Jungles can be cage defensive and sounds like yours is. Just try getting her out gently. Should be fine once she is out

cheers nick

if you have had her for 5 weeks she may be coming into shed...they get a bit cranky at this time and they can hang on to their poo.......then when they shed they poo and everything all at once.

If you look at her skin and feel it it will feel different and the skin sort of gets dry and youc an see the outline of the scales. Get a water sprayer and give her a fine mist of water each day to help keep her skin moist so you ahve a nice clean shed.
If you notice her eyes go cloudy she will shed in the next few days after that.

Dont handle her at this time as they cant see and can be a bit cranky

Dont offer food until after the shed....as the food can create a 'bump' which can make the skin get 'stick' and not come off easily...you can feed after the shed.

When handling give at least 24 - 48 hours after a feed before handling and when you reach in to get your snake act confidently and lift the snake out. Dont hesitate...if the snake learns it can threaten you and stop you getting her out you might find she will s up all the more.

I think you might find she is coming into shed...dont worry she will be back to normal soon

let her go for a slither out on the grass sometimes this can help
I find that with my snakes they always go to the toilet when i take them out if they have eaten a few days prior. its easy to tell when they need to go, and saves you cleaning the cage :)
+1 to Fantazmic.

Thanks guys :) I will try fuzzy rats next time round.. She is small so I thought that maybe she is just absorbing it all. I just worry that I am scaring her by pulling her out so much.
Is it true that if they are in an "S" shape that whenever you put your hand in front of them they will bite you each and every time. ??? As I have heard this as well. I think the snake knows it has power over me and trys to scare me whenever I want to hold her!
I will have to look for the shedding signs too.

Don't try and pick her up over her head. she see's your big hand coming at her
and get's defensive. Pick her up in the middle and keep your hand away from her face/head region.

I was told to put your flat hand to her face before u pick them up, is that wrong ? lol. So im best to just pat her back (so she knows im there) then pick her up from the middle of her body? This could be why she gets defensive at me.. :(

Also she is going into her hide to "hide" leave her be when she is in there.

Okay , usually i try to tip her out of her hide. Im not supposed to do that either :(

That's kinda like your neighbours walking through your bedroom whenever they want.
She needs her privacy : )

There are different rules for eveyone. I dont put my hand in front of hatchies especially if they bite, I pick them up from behind if they are biters until they calm down, but you havent said that your snake actually bites if I have read everything correctly.

I have snakes that 'dont want to come out' but often they dont want to go back in either.

Two feeds on pinkies is not much, a furred feed will most likely produce the results you want. Similar things happen to me, sometimes they hold it and let it go in a big way, or absorb it and pass little more than some calcium.

Fuzzy rats might be a bit big, I have only just aquired a pair of jungles myself but they are alot smaller than other carpets.

...I often tip my Diamond out of her hide when I think she's being too antisocial.
Whoops?
She hates it at first but then she's like "Hang on, I'm outside! Escapeeeeeee"

i do not think this is true. the snake 's'ing is simply a defensive technique so if it has to strike it can as snakes cant actually lunge without springing back. my female spotted does it all the time and ive only been bitten a few times through my own fault i.e. handling her when i very first got her without letting her settle in. so i think it really depends on the snake and over time u will learn how to read your snake

Have you checked the inside of the enclosure thoroughly for poops? My snake likes to do secret pees/poops in the various little blankies he has around his cage.

Also, my snake does the s shape when I take the lid off, and he'll tag me if he gets a chance so grab him gently but firmly behind his head and wait for him to settle down a bit before I lift him out. He doesn't much like getting brought out, but once he's out he's a happy little chappy.

ok first off , have u offred food only twice or has it only taken food twice?
i would be feeding it atleast weekly , being that as u have said its on the small side.[ how big is it ?]
are your temps correct in the click clack / enclosure ? what size click clack / enclosure have u got it in .
if the snake duznt want to come out , then either leave it in or use a hook . if u keep pestering it the snake will only get stressed out more .

It is a 44 Litre tank. I would guestimate that the snake is 60cm long.
I have only offered food twice, but was told to do it every 2 weeks. So I should start doing this weekly?
The temp (under the carpet) is 30- 31degrees at night and around 33degrees during the daytime
It is a happy little snake when its in its enclosure- it comes out every night and plays on the wood in her cage. And both times Ive fed her she has no hesitation and eats instantly.
She's just a bummer to get out of her cage.

So should I just hold her firmly behind her head so to avoid nips.
rachel

i wouldnt hold her behind the head to restrain her, they dont like that,...if the nips dont worry you, deal with them, just dont pull away incase u hurt her mouth.

like fantazmic said, it sounds like shes gonna shed soon, feed her weekly, and once she sheds she should be back to hiding less and moving more, thats the better time to start handling,...
