Do snakes yearn for sex? Does anyone know?
I have no intentions of breeding with him. But should I be looking at mating him just to
benefit his well being? Has anyone ever looked at behavioural aspects of captive
snakes having sex as opposed to not?
Should I be looking out for a partner for my bloke so he can experience it or does it make no difference?

I had to be more careful during breeding season if I used males in demos
Even if they were separated from all contact with females they had distinct 'mood swings'

I would hope not. As beastiality is illegal not to mention it would be a difficult task if you where to try.

I will also add. You should be careful who you ask if their "snake" yerns/desires sex.

I doubt any animal "yearns" for sex aside from those that actually enjoy it (ie, dolphins). They certainly have an instinct to reproduce and this can be triggered by things like seasonal temperature change, smells, etc.

snakes are gaggin for it

that is when they are ovulating or producing sperm ,but when there not there like 'MEH"

my boy diamond had to get laid before he'd eat this year, lucky i had a girl for him,...!!

certain times of the year they have a 1 track mind,....

Alvin was unsettled at the beginning of spring this year and I couldnt work out what was wrong with him and had to post on here to ask...and got told he might be a bit randy lol

His last shed had hemepenes for the first time so everyone was right.

It was only for a few weeks though and then he settled down and was back to normal again.

My girl on the other hand is just the same all the time...couldnt care less....

bit like people really......

This is interesting.. i keep a m/f stimson pair together - they're 2 years old now. They are in breeding condition weight wise but haven't bred yet- do you think if left to their own devices they will? I wouldn't ever do the 'cooling' process unless i was trying to breed them, though i have all the equipment should it happen. Any thoughts?

Why not? Its a natural process and Ive found it beneficial even when not pairing the animals up.

I found i didnt really have to- the male stopped eating on his own for a good 4 months and the female stopped for about 8 weeks on her own too. I think they're pretty sure what's best for them. I don't really want toencourage breeding is all im saying, i just want nature to take its course. I'm pretty sure they'll breed if left to their own devices. Was just curious as to what others thought.. If I witness the mating or notice her fattening up for follicle formation i'll stop feeding her altogether until her eggs are laid as per normal.

I see what you're saying about the process; i have used it to great success, but as i am not bothered too greatly if this pair will breed this year, i thought i'd see how they go on their own. Was just wondering my chances of getting a clutch as the pair have lived together since about 6mths old and this year is the first year they're large enough to breed when the season comes around.

I wondered the same thing about my Stimmie last year...he'll be 4 at the end of March. I asked the breeder I got him from and they said because he'd been born in captivity and had never been near a female that he most likely wouldn't be interested. I don't intend to try and breed or get another snake anyway, but I just wondered. Maybe all snakes are different just like people.
